LINDA BORUCKI
Linda L. Borucki, 57, of Holland, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born in Toledo, on November 8, 1952, to John and Patsy (Robinett) Furstenberg. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Borucki is survived by her husband, David; son, John (Lisa) Borucki; daughter, Jennifer (Warren) Parker; grandchildren, Nate, TJ, Amanda, Brooke; father, John Furstenberg; motherin- law, Bernadine Borucki and sisters, Sherri and Janet. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patsy Furstenberg, and granddaughter, Danielle. Visitation was held Saturday, August 28, in the Neville Funeral Home, Holland. Frances Louise Siegfried, 79, of Holland, died Sunday, August 22, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. She was born in Tennessee on May 20, 1931, to John and Bessie (Casteel) Rowe. She worked many years as hostess/ waitress for the Griddle Cake. She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Ray) Twigg, Theresa Story, Mary Miller; son, Stephen (Aline) Siegfried; grandchildren, TJ, Todd, Stephanie, Michelle, Christina, Ariel, Robin; great-grandchildren, Jason, Josh, Ashley, Matthew, Abigail, Savannah, Chasity; sister, Faye and brothers, “WH”, Ed and Johnny Rowe. She was preceded in death by her greatgrandson, Jeremiah. Funeral services were held Friday, August 27, in the Neville Funeral Home, Holland. Burial was private. BARBARA ZOLTANSKI
Barbara Finsel Zoltanski died Thursday, August 20, 2010. She was born in Fostoria, Ohio, in 1929, to Ralph and Helen (Hoffbauer) Finsel. She received her bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1952, from St. Mary of the Springs College for Women, in Columbus. She taught first grade in one of the last remaining four-room schoolhouses in rural Ohio. Throughout the course of her life, Mrs. Zoltanski honored her family heritage of service through international and local concerns. She reached beyond her community to raise awareness and generate funds to support special needs children in developing countries, with a particular interest in Guatemala. She involved her local community to respond to the plight of the Chernobyl disaster, working to supply safe food to families. She promoted cultural exchange that fostered understanding and peace, welcoming international students and Asian educators to reside in her family home. On a local level, her efforts resulted in the first federally-funded hot lunch program at her community elementary school, the establishment of publicly provided transportation for faith-based schools in Lucas County, and the preservation of Maumee Valley historic structures. She was concerned with the needs of Toledo central city children, where she was a volunteer teacher. Mrs. Zoltanski served meals at St. Francis De Sales soup kitchen and drove a door-to-door bread route delivering to families in need. An accomplished pianist, throughout her life with her husband and many children, Mrs. Zoltanski routinely visited the elderly, sick and local nursing homes to play the piano and read poetry. A lifelong student of American history, particularly the Civil War and the Maumee River Valley, Mrs. Zoltanski shared her knowledge via a weekly newspaper column in the Maumee Herald. Trail Lore chronicled Ohio history and documented stories of local residents and their place in regional events. Mrs. Zoltanski was affiliated with the Ohio Dominican University Alumni Association, the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, where she was president of the investment group, Foundation for Life, Heartbeat of Toledo and the Auxiliary of the Little Sisters of the Poor. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Attorney Edward Zoltanski; children, Teresa Zoltanski, Esq., Cecilia Zoltanski Ross, Mary Zoltanski DeWitt, Thomas Edward, Stephen John, Peter Joseph, Helen Zoltanski, Monica Zoltanski, Esq., Joan Zoltanski Karabogias, M.D.; grandchildren, and siblings, Mildred Naderer, Mary Gabel, Charles Finsel. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Francis, and her siblings, Ursula Maciejewski, Catherine Knopp and Norman Finsel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today, August 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 104 West Broadway Street, Maumee. Arrangements were made by the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mark Francis Zoltanski Tuition Assistance Fund, which benefits students at St. Joseph’s School with special and financial needs. Charles Hazlett, 51, of Springfield Township, died Sunday, August 1, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born July 20, 1959, in Toledo. He was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and stunt driving. He is survived by his significant other, Sherry Schumann; daughter, Chyrstal Hazlett; mother, Marie (Thomas) Meyers; sisters, Robin (Jay) Oldham, Rovena Barnes (Richard Rechtine); Renee (Joe) Attaway and Tammy (Jessie) Carpenter, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, August 6, at the Blanchard-Strabler Funeral Home.
BETTY JANE SPRATT
Betty Jane Spratt, 86, of Holland, died July 20, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo. She was born on May 27, 1924, to Rudolph and Gladys (Schmakel) Kreft, in Toledo. She was a homemaker and worked part-time for Bargain City and Miller Fireworks. A cake decorator, she worked out of her home making cakes for special occasions for family and friends. She also enjoyed crafts and spending time with her family. Ms. Spratt is survived by her children, Eddie (Peggy) Spratt, Debbie (Doug) Bialecki, John (Desiree) Spratt and Melda “Sue” (Jerry) VonSeggern; son-inlaw, Al Gross; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and sisters, Marie Schlapman and Shirley (Dennis) Bast. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward; sons, James and Tom; daughter, Judy Gross, and brother, William Kreft. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, Airport Highway, with the Rev. Larry Carey officiating. Interment was in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

FREDERICK FADELL
Frederick J. Fadell, 85, of Holland, died Monday, July 5, 2010, in the Arbors of Sylvania. He was a graduate of Woodward High School and the University of Toledo, where he received his BBA in 1947 and his LLB in 1959. He was an assistant county prosecutor of Lucas County before he went into private practice for more than 40 years. He served as director of the Lucas County Welfare Department and was responsible for bringing the federal food stamp program to the county. Mr. Fadell also was responsible for the merging of the Soldiers and Sailors welfare division into the Lucas County Welfare Department, and he established a procedure for the prosecution of welfare fraud and a program for work relief. He was magistrate of the Municipal Court of Toledo. He was a member of the Michigan and Ohio Bar Associations, a member of the Lebanese Business Men’s Organization (Kappa Chi), an active member of the Democratic party and director and chairman of the Proud Mothers Beggars March for the collection of funds for the Danny Thomas’ St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan; daughters, Karen (Bill) Mahr, Diane (John) Lark and Cyni Montrie; grandchildren, Melissa (Chuck) Dieringer, Sarah (Steve) Martise, Bill (Natalie) Mahr; Stephanie and Megan Montrie; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Hannah Dieringer and Noah Mahr, and brother, Louis Fadell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alex, and sisters, Emily and Mary. A Scripture service was held Thursday, July 8, at Coyle Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Friday, July 9, in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Joan of Arc Church. Interment was in Toledo Memorial Park. Dora S. “Doris” Pawlaczyk, 88, of Holland, died June 18, 2010, at Flower Hospital. She was born on November 30, 1921, to Michael and Sophia (Beczkowski) Pawlicki. She worked as a drill press operator for Jeep Corp. She was a member of the UAW and the Altar and Rosary Society at Holy Trinity Church, Marygrove. She enjoyed gardening, canning and playing cards. Ms. Pawlaczyk is survived by her daughter-inlaw, Karen Pawlaczyk; grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Szymanski, Paul (Stephanie) Pawlaczyk, Jill (Rob) Palmer, Jane (Dave) Hulka, Mark (Christa) Pawlaczyk and Matt Pawlaczyk; greatgrand- children, Jacob, Allie, Sydney, Emily, Carson, Owen, Kayley, Grant, Harper, Isabel and Colin, and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony, and sons, Bob and Tom. A recitation of the Rosary was held Tuesday, June 22, at the W.K. Sujkowski and Son Funeral Home, Airport Highway. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, June 23, at Holy Trinity Church, Marygrove. Interment was in Marygrove Cemetery.

Irma Mae Freed, 79, of Holland, and formerly of Toledo, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek Care Center. She was born in Deshler, Ohio on February 15, 1931, to William and Helen (Huber) Isenhart. She was a member of Park Congregational Church in Toledo. She enjoyed the Toledo Symphony, Opera and traveling. Ms. Freed is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Rulason, and granddaughter, Andrea Rulason. She was preceded in death by her husband, Relden Freed; parents, and stepfather, Carl Harms. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 3, at the Maison-Dardenne- Walker Funeral Home, Maumee. Brenda Lee (Pawlinski) Mills, 41, died Friday, May 28, 2010, as the result of a motorcycle accident. She is survived by her husband, James Mills; children, Brandon and Mikenzie; mother, Evelyn Pawlinski; sister, Tammy (Kim) Osborn; brother-in-law, Joe Holmes, and several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed crafts and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Pawlinski, and sister, Sandra Holmes. Funeral services were held Friday, June 4, at the Wisniewski Funeral Home Inc., Toledo. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery. Charitable donations can be bestowed to the Mills children fund.

Leona F. Delaney, 93, of Holland, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Spring Meadows Extended Care Center. She was born December 6, 1916, to Joe and Sophie (Jeziorski) Tafelski. She married Francis “Hoop” Delaney on December 26, 1933. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She is survived by her sons, Gerald “Jerry” Delaney and David (Marie) Delaney; stepson, Donald Delaney; daughter, Janet Meek; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; daughter-in-law, Karen Delaney, and special friend, Barb Schmiedebush. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, on August 24, 1994. She also was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Delaney; brother, Clemens Tafelski; sister, Martha Ryan; son-inlaw, Robert Meek, and daughter-in-law, Eileen Delaney. Scripture services were held Friday, May 28, in the Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, Holland. Funeral services began in the funeral home on Saturday, May 29, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine Church. Burial was in Springfield Township Cemetery. Delbert “Bump” Childress Sr., 62, of Holland, died Sunday, April 25, 2010. He was born in Toledo, on April 2, 1948, to Paul and Martha (Brumfield) Childress. He married Carolyn Buck, in Maumee, on February 3, 1967. He worked as a truck driver for Wonder Bread for more than 22 years. Mr. Childress is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn; children, Delbert (Teresa) Childress Jr., Carmen (Chris) Sandor, Carrie (Todd) Zappone, Carla (Michael) Whitson, Dean (Amy) Childress; 18 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Paul (Bev) Childress, Tom (Lois) Childress; sister, Ella (Tim) Shelley; step-father, Ralph (Ruth) Smith, and motherin- law, Harriett Buck. Lawrence B. “Buss” VanScoder, 87, of Holland, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Perrysburg, on August 26, 1922. He was a World War II Army Corps veteran. He worked as a truck driver for Ohio Plate Glass for more than 29 years, and was a member of the Holland American Legion Post #646. Mr. VanScoder is survived by is his wife, Ida Reese-Cramer; daughter, Julie Fieldman; son, Michael; stepson, Kenneth (Dorothy) Cramer; 10 grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene “Red” and sisters, Doris Rouiller and Betty Smith. The Holland American Legion Post #646 conducted services on Thursday, April 22, at the Neville Funeral Home, Holland. Funeral services were held Friday, April 23, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Keith Simpson officiating. Burial with full military honors was held at Springfield Township Cemetery. Jeanette M. Buck, 69, of Holland, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, in the Whitehouse Country Manor. She is survived by her daughter, Isabell (John) Christian and her son. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Buck, and her mother, Isabelle. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 14, at the Coyle Funeral Home, Toledo. David G. Butler, 64, of Maumee, died Wednesday March 31, 2010, at Flower Hospital. He was born in Toledo, on July 22, 1945, to Ellsworth and Ruth (Seeley) Butler. He married Mary Morgan, in Toledo, on March 15, 1968. A U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, Mr. Butler was a service technician for Harmon Sign for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary; sons, Dean (Tanya) Butler, Scott (Charice) Butler; daughter, Amy (Orlando) Butler; grandchildren, Jerry, Tim, Joe, Elizabeth, Ryan, Nathan; brothers, Terry (Pam) Butler, Brian (Kathy) Butler; sisters, Doris Coutcher and Kay (Kenny) Jeffries. Chester “Chet” V. Koralewski, 75, of Holland, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Toledo Hospital. He was born in Holland, on July 19, 1934, to Joseph and Anna (Zientek) Koralewski. He married Deloris Shade on April 24, 1954. Mr. Koralewski was employed as a truck driver for 30 years before retiring from Duff Truck Lines in 1992. He was a member of Teamsters Local #20, Master Drivers Trucking Association and in his spare time he enjoyed reading and traveling to the casinos. He is survived by his wife, Deloris Koralewski; children, Thomas (Phyllis) Koralewski, Catherine (David) Wyatt, Timothy (Julie) Koralewski, Cheryl Retzloff and Gerald Koralewski; grandchildren, Bradley, Dustin, Trevor, Allen, Zachary and Josh Koralewski, Danielle May, Pamela and Amber Retzloff; great-grandchildren , Samantha May, Isaac Keefer, Tray and Des Taylor. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph and Leonard Koralewski, and sister-inlaw, Lill Spangler. ROBERT BIGLOW
Robert L. Biglow, 77, of Holland, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Flower Hospital, Sylvania. He was born in Holland on May 7, 1932, to Lawrence and Maeola (Fisher) Biglow. He married Delores Gadberry, in Sylvania, on October 20, 1951, and she preceded him in death on May 9, 1999. He then married Phyllis in 2001. A 1950 graduate of Holland High School, he worked as a Tool and Die Maker for Doehler Jarvis. Mr. Biglow is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Kathy (Carl) Wenzlick, Eric Biglow; grandchildren, Lance (Olivia) Barnhiser, Brad Wenzlick, Amanda (Cliff) Brown, Eric Biglow II, Isaiah Biglow; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Quinn Barnhiser. He also was preceded in death by his son, Jeff. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 13, at the Neville Funeral Home, Holland. Burial was in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Doris B. Cray, 89, of Holland, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. She was born in Oregon, Ohio, on September 6, 1920, to Joseph and Helen (Romstadt) Haas. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and became a registered nurse after completing the St. Vincent’s nursing program. She served as a Naval Nurse during World War II. Ms. Cray retired from St. Vincent Medical Center after more than 30 years as an R.N. working in the premature nursery. She was a member of St. Ignatius and Our Lady of Lourdes Churches and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlepoint and collecting Hummel figurines. She is survived by her children, Patricia (James) Brimacombe, Thomas (Sue), Charles (Maureen), John and Mark (Luann) Cray; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanne (John) Mermer and Marie Brannan, and sisterin- law, Gloria Haas. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Charles, in 1984. She also was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Jean Dominique; sister, Bernadine Semanson, and brother, William Haas. A recitation of the Rosary was held Wednesday, March 10, in the Coyle Funeral Home, Toledo. Funeral services began in the mortuary on Thursday, March 11, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment was in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Oregon. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Palliative Care Unit at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. John’s Jesuit High School.

Alice “Boobie” Kaczala, 82, of Holland, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born in Toledo, on June 25, 1927, to Joseph and Stella (Less) Zywocki. She married James Kaczala, in Toledo, on November 25, 1968. She had worked for more than 40 years at Bingham Manufacturing. Mrs. Kaczala is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Caroll (Tom Sr.) Anderson; daughter-in-law, Marsha Sherick; grandchildren, Tammy, Tommy, John Dean, Russell Jay, Don and April; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John Sherick; brothers, Stanley and Ed, and sister, Marie. Visitation and services will be private with burial taking place at Resurrection Cemetery. DALE STILSON
Dale R. Stilson, 99, of Holland, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. A former Williamsburg area resident, he moved to Traverse City in 1979, then to Holland, in 1983. He received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of arts degree from Central Michigan University. He taught in the Grand Traverse area schools for many years, retiring from the Elk Rapids Schools in 1972 after teaching for 36 years. He was born in Clinton County, Michigan, on October 28, 1910, to Roy and Nellie (Briggs) Stilson. He married Ila Cox in 1936. Mr. Stilson is survived by his stepson, Robert Cox; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; nephews, James Stilson of Elk Rapids and Mitchel Stilson of Chula Vista, California, and niece, Nancy Stilson of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1990; brother, Edwin Stilson, and niece, Darlene Hulbert. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 10, at Neville Funeral Home, Holland, with the Rev. Jamie Gill officiating. Burial was held Thursday, March 11, in Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City, Michigan. She was born in Monclova, on April 3, 1916, to John and Adeline (Bruce) Baumhower. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, card playing, gardening and spending time with her family. She is survived by her son, John (Juanita) Patton; daughter, Sharon (Robert) Beach; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; daughter, Beverly Barnes; brothers, John, Glen and Norm, and sister, Helen. Paul Phipps, 73, of Holland, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at his home. He was born in Beckley, West Virginia, on December 30, 1936, to Everett and Sadie Phipps. He married Donna Jean Carter on September 22, 1956. Mr. Phipps was one of the owners of Able Equipment for more than 40 years. He came from West Virginia to work for Nickels Bakery. He was a local member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, State of Ohio for more than 40 years. He enjoyed boating and was a member of Cooley Canal Yacht Club for more than 30 years. In his younger years, he enjoyed motorcycling, and was a charter member of the Dux Motorcycle Club in Bedford and Blackhawks. He is survived by children, Candy (Ed/Lee) Browne, Cathy (Mike) Kolodziejski, Cindy (Larry) Hurst, Paul (Ellen) Steinmiller; grandchildren, Corey Browne, Courtney (Jamie) Goda, Autumn (Mike) Scott, Mikey Kolodziejski, Jennifer (Mike) DiRosa, Amanda Hurst, Amanda Steinmiller, Paul Steinmiller, Jr.; greatgrandchildren, Elloise Kolodziejski, Wyatt Scott, Gretchen Scott, Bryson Goda; brothers, Oneal Phipps, Delmar (Maryann) Phipps; special family members, Betty Burgess and Paul Dickens; brothersin- law, Danny (Bobbi) Carter, Larry Carter; sisters- in-law, Ruthie (Gene) Creecy and Faye (Eddie) McCoppins, and many nieces and nephews. LOUIS KRETZ
Louis F. “Louie” Kretz, 83, of Holland, Ohio, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He was born in Napoleon, Ohio, on December 28, 1926, to Louis and Florence (Westhoven) Kretz. He married Doris Kretz on April 21, 1951. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he continued his service to his country in the Army Reserves. He worked as a truck driver, retiring from Local #20. He was a member of the American Legion Post #646 and VFW Post #3013. An airplane enthusiast, Mr. Kretz enjoyed radio controlled airplanes and building models by hand. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play hockey, soccer and softball. Mr. Kretz is survived by his children, Brenda (Dallas) Provo, Katherine (Ronald) Fitch, Suzanne (George) Shaneyfelt and Edward (Shelly) Kretz; 12 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; two greatgreat- grandchildren; brothers, John (Lucille) Kretz and Charles “Bill” (Kay) Kretz; as well as his special friend, Phyllis Arthur. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, on September 7, 1989. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Kretz, and sister, Ethlyn Derkus. Funeral services began Friday, February 19, in Neville Funeral Home, Holland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens. THELMA HALL
Thelma Kay Hall, 49, of Holland, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born in Toledo, on October 19, 1960, to Frank and Doris (Grover) Sevey. She married Robert Hall in Sylvania, Ohio, on August 20, 1994. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Tom (Monica) Snyder, Allen Snyder; step-children, Jeremy Hall, Jacob Hall; grandchildren, Aaron Snyder, Desiree Snyder; father, Frank Sevey; brothers, William Sevey, Gary Sevey; sister, Pamela (Rodney) Curtis, and nephew, Jason Growden. She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Sevey. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20, in the Neville Funeral Home, Holland, with the Rev. Dennis Lauman officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Victory Junction Gang Camp.

SUE MOOSE
Sue (Reed) Moose, 74, of Holland, died Friday, January 22, 2010. She was born June 22, 1935, to Wayne and Evelyn (Mortemore) Reed in Sylvania, Ohio. She graduated from Burnham High, in Sylvania, in 1952. She met her husband, Burdell “Burt” at Epiphany Lutheran Church, where they were married on July 7, 1956. Sue worked for the former Wayne Reed, Inc. for 12 years. She later was secretary, bookkeeper and partner with her husband in their sewer and waterline business, Burt Moose, Inc., for 25 years. Special friends included the Burnham High School Ladies, who gathered in her home several times a year, and her tennis friends from Laurel Hill Tennis Club. She and her husband enjoyed family weekends at their farm in Michigan with daughter, Sherrie; son, Jeff and their families. Ms. Moose also enjoyed reading, bird watching, knitting, and discussing politics. As members of the Ohio Contractors Association, Mr. and Mrs. Moose traveled extensively in and out of the country. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends on July 7, 2006, when they renewed their wedding vows. Ms. Moose has been a member of Providence Lutheran Church for 44 years, where she was involved with the PLCW and organized many Red Cross blood drives. She worked on Election Day for the Lucas County Board of Elections for more than 30 years. She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie (Mike) Carroll, and their children, Steve (Jenna), Malorie (Kent) Winkler and Brian Carroll; son, Jeff (Erin) and their children, Sarah and Adam Moose, and Connor Muraski; great-grandchild, Camden Winkler; sisters-in law, Evon (Kenny) Rufenacht, Bev (Jim) Brown, Karen (Bob) Cordrey and Dorothy Moose; several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Jack and Lorraine Zimmerman and Nelson and Jo Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burdell, in February 2007. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Lois Wahlgren and Lorrie Hammond. A memorial service was held Tuesday, January 26, at Providence Lutheran Church, Holland, with the Rev. Rich Ferne officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Neapolis, Ohio. Arrangements were made by the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania. Memorial donations may be made to Providence Lutheran Church, Holland; the Community of Christ Lutheran Church, Whitehouse, Ohio, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
JOHN LORENZEN
John Kenneth Lorenzen, 55, of Holland, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, in his home. He was born in Toledo, on September 10, 1954, to James and Doris (Leonard) Lorenzen. He married Brenda Giles in Maumee, on December 6, 1986. A maintenance supervisor for the Village of Holland, Mr. Lorenzen also served as Holland fire chief and as an EMS instructor. Mr. Lorenzen is survived by his wife, Brenda; children, Dixie (Jamie) Kosmin, Terri (Jamie) Brugnone, Anthony (Ardin) Armenio, Dominic (Patty) Armenio, Dale Lorenzen; grandson, Holden Armenio; brothers, James (Rhonda) Lorenzen, Paul Lorenzen, Dale Lorenzen; sister, Linda (Bill) Geiser, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Margaret Brown. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 14, in the Neville Funeral Home, Holland. Burial was private. TIMOTHY SMITH
Professional educator and high school coach, Timothy William Smith, of Waterville, and formerly of Globe Avenue, Toledo, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Hospice in Perrysburg. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 10, 1939, to Bill and Marie (Rankin) Smith. A graduate of Cleveland St. Joseph High School in 1957, Mr. Smith received his bachelor’s and master's degrees from Bowling Green State University, and lived most of his life in the Toledo area. He married Sharon Miles on September 1, 1962, in Sandusky, Ohio. Mr. Smith coached many different sports, but his especially enjoyed basketball and tennis. He earned 300 victories in both sports, respectively. He taught and coached at Sandusky St. Mary’s, Holland- Springfield, Akron St. Vincent, Toledo St. John’s, Millbury Lake and Sylvania Northview during his 33-year career. As a coach, he stressed hard work and teamwork, specializing in the strategy of the game. He was inducted into The Ohio High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame for basketball in 2007, for which he served as past president. After retiring, Coach Smith analyzed as a color commentator for NBC Channel 24, WLQR/1470 AM Radio and for BCSN Cable TV in basketball, tennis and softball. He also enjoyed his family, music, movies, and the human spirit’s will to overcome adversity. He was an active member of Corpus Christi University Parish in Toledo. Mr. Smith is survived by his children, Steven (Kristine) Smith, Kelley (Bret) Treece, Michael (Willow Kelly) Smith; grandchildren, Lindsay, Lauren and Sharon Smith, Emily and Connor Treece, Miles and Hayden Kelly; sisters, Mary Jane (Al) Robbins and Eileen (John) Jacobs; brothers-in-law, Jay (Ruth) Miles and Rod (Charlotte) Miles; sister-in-law, Anne (Gene) Schwamberger, and his close friend, Sharon Schadek. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon, on April 19, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, January 13, in Corpus Christi University Parish, Toledo, with Father James Bacik officiating. Interment was in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements were made by the Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, Holland. Janet L. (Rodenhauser) Weasner, 69, of Holland, died Monday, January 11, 2010, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born May 15, 1940, in Fremont, to Walter and Eileen (Applegate) Rodenhauser. She was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and worked as a cake decorator in the Kroger bakery department. Ms. Weasner was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and enjoyed gardening. She is survived by her daughters, Laura (William) Cooper of Georgetown, Texas, and Michele (Joseph) Landin of Toledo; grandchildren, Erica Cooper, Stephen Cooper, Joseph Michael Landin II and Jacob Landin, and brother, Ronald (Betty) Rodenhauser. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Cheryl. A Mass of Resurrection was held Friday, January 15, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fremont, Ohio, with Fr. David Bruning officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fremont. Arrangements were made by the Keller-Ochs-Koch- Mason Funeral and Cremation Service, Fremont.
