Donald A. Perry Jr., 46, of Perrysburg, died on December 22, 2009. He was born in Toledo on September 16, 1963, to Donald and Sandra (Aumend) Perry. He was a 1981 graduate of Swanton High School, an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Nascar fan. He served his country in the United States Navy where he was an HT2 Gulf War veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Yellowstone. He was employed with Fresenius Medical as an operator until his disability. Mr. Perry is survived by his children, Amanda, James, Joshua, Derrick, Katie, Perry and Lindsey; grandson, Evan Perry; siblings, BMCM Dennis (Idahlia) Perry USN (Ret), Kimberly Perry, and Kendra (David) Kosier, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; father, Donald Perry Sr. and brother, Dana Perry. Funeral services were held December 28, at Witzler- Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg. Laurina Banks Girard, born in Boise, Idaho, to Theodora and Frank A. Banks, passed away in the arms of her daughters in her home in Perrysburg, Ohio. Being born in the West, she spent her 95 years living with the soul of a pioneer woman. As a child, her family moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in a horse-drawn wagon as her father was building the dam at Jenny Lake, one of many dams he built in the West for the Department of the Interior. Being Chief Engineer for the Grand Coulee Dam was his greatest achievement. Living in the West, Mother became fiercely independent, self-reliant and remained physically strong all her life. She didn’t like organized groups of people preferring instead to be in a canyon imagining who once walked there or listening to the Pacific Ocean pounding through the blow-holes in the rocks below the bluffs in Mendocino, California where she had a small redwood house she could retreat to in privacy with one of her “pound” dogs. Local shopkeepers and our faithful family retainers were her best friends. Mother’s imagination was acute and often she would weave a fanciful story for us about an unknown couple in a restaurant or someone on an escalator. Mother always wore spectacular hats low on her brow obscuring her liquid blue eyes until she met your gaze that often felt like a soft touch. In her later years, she chose to wear soft tailored clothes, leaving behind her Paris wardrobe, high heels and hats, as memories in her old steamer trunk she once used to carry the family abroad. Mother met our father, Stephen A. Girard of Hoquiam, Washington, at the University of Washington and was married in 1936. Four children completed the family and we began moving to California, Michigan, the Netherlands, and Ohio where our father continued his 47- year career with the Kaiser Company of Oakland, California, which sent him to Toledo to buy Willys-Overland which became Kaiser Jeep Corporation. In 1963, our parents returned to California. Mother was happy to be back in the West. She would drive all over the hills passionate about the views and felt connected with Native-American lifestyles. Our parents moved to the Napa Valley where they established the Girard Winery in Oakville winning many gold metal awards for our exceptional wines. When more land was needed for new vines, Mother claimed her tiny patch of Zinfandel grapes “off limits” but her wine was bottled for private family enjoyment. The Girard name flourished in the Napa Valley for over 21 years and was later sold. A lifetime habit of Mother’s was to lift her chin up and be with the clouds, treetops, birds and squirrels as if it were her way of stepping out of the busy world she lived in and into the solitary space she adored. Gaze upward, Mother. Enjoy the peace. She is survived by her children Julie Miller (Richard) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Caron Avery (John) of Madison, Connecticut, Stephanie LeBoutillier (George) of Perrysburg, and Stephen Girard, Jr. (Carol) of Monroe, Oregon, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, John V. Banks. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Maumee, with the Rev. Dr. J. In lieu of flowers, kindly make contributions in memory of our mother to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Lydia W. Langley, 90, died December 16, 2009, at Elizabeth Scott Memorial Care Center. She was born July 18, 1919, in Germany, to Sigismund and Bertha (Meissner) Wolff. She married John Lang-ley on October 23, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a secretary for Allied Van Lines, where she retired in 1978. She was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and the Perrysburg Senior Center. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and especially oil painting. Ms. Langley is survived by her daughters, Rhoda (David) Cook and Judith Elliott; grandchildren, Kimberly (Bob) Nichol, Kristen (Victor) Mora, Homer Elliott, Charles (Laura) Elliott, Jane (Paul) Willcox, Elizabeth (Timothy) Niederkorn, Timothy (Kendra) Hawley and Ann (Mike) Wielgopolski; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer (Virginia) Wolff and sister, Adeline (Byron) Eddy. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on September 12, 1998. She also was preceded in death by her son, John Langley, her infant grandson, her sister Ann Dresch and special friend, Ray Murphy. Robert G. Utter Sr., 75, of Perrysburg, died at his home. He was born in Toledo, on November 24, 1934, to James and Susie (Hencher) Utter and was a 1952 graduate of Macomber High School, where he played on the first Macomber football team, scoring the very first touchdown. He was All City in football, basketball and baseball. He also played baseball for the Dunbar Drillers and during the 1950s played fast pitch softball for the East Side YMCA, Local 9 and the Rooster Inn. He attended the University of Toledo, where he also played football and basketball. In 2002, he was inducted into the Toledo City League Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Utter married Sharon Carr on July 24, 1954, in Rossford, where he was a member of the Rossford Eagles F.O.E. 2322. He also was a member of the Maumee Elks Lodge PBOE No. 1850. For more than 44 years, Robert worked with Libbey- Owens-Ford, retiring in 1997 as maintenance supervisor. He was an avid fisherman and hunter throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Robert (Lila) Utter, Jr. of Northwood and Vickie (Richard) Honner of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Capt. Jessica Utter, USMC, Adrienne Utter, Bret Honner and Brad Honner; three greatgrandchildren; brother, James (Ginny) Utter of Maumee; sister-in-law, Ruth Utter of Oregon, Ohio; and brother-in-law, Neil Carr. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Ronald Utter; sister-in-law, Carol Carr, and mother-in-law, Marjorie Carr. Ralph K. “Butch” Mericle, Jr., 69, of Perrysburg, died December 11, 2009, at the Toledo Hospital. He was the son of Hazel and Ralph Mericle Sr. He was a lifelong resident of Perrysburg and attended Perrysburg High School, where he was a member of “The Senior Bopsters” musical group. After graduation in 1958, he attended Bowling Green State University. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star medal. After his Vietnam service, he returned to college and graduated from the University of Toledo with a bachelor of arts degree. He went to work as a compliance officer for the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. After retiring from OSHA, he worked as the zoning administrator for Lake Township. He was an avid fisherman, a fervent supporter of BGSU athletics, especially the basketball team, and for many years enjoyed playing slow pitch softball in various leagues in and around Perrysburg. He is survived by his wife, Christy Besozzi; sons, Tony and Nick Mericle; brothers, Roger (Maura), Robert (Renate), Richard and Ronald, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A short memorial service will be held today, December 16, at 11 a.m., at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary Street, Perrysburg. Roeck, 82, died Friday, December 11, 2009, at Flower Hospital. He was born August 15, 1927, in Leutkirch, Germany, to Lorenz Struab and Kreszentia Roeck. He came to America in 1957 and became an internationally recognized product design engineer and “Master of Design” award winner. His accomplishments were most recently celebrated at the Toledo Museum of Art “The Alliance Art and Industry” exhibit. He was a partner at J.M. Little and Associates, S.E. Fuller Associates and finished his career at the Sponseller Group. Mr. Roeck was an actor, designer, engineer, pilot, and photographer. He enjoyed electronics, music and opera, but his greatest joy was becoming an American Citizen. He is survived by his friends, Alberto (Sue) Spallino and their children, Blake and Mia, and special neighbors, Tom and Sue Bigler. Friends will be received Thursday, December 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Witzler- Shank Funeral Home, 222 East South Boundary Street, Perrysburg, where a memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be Friday, December 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Church. RUTH LANDWEHR FAYE MacLENNAN Russell “Russ” A. Ruffner of Toledo and formerly of Perrysburg, died Saturday, November 28, 2009. He was born December 24, 1957, in Bowling Green, to Jerry Ruffner and Marlyn (Strohl) Thornton. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1976 and enlisted in the United States Army Parachute Division. He was a truck driver for many years, traveling the United States, and most recently as an independent contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan. He enjoyed playing golf and euchre, studying the Bible, his family, and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Redwings, the Tigers and the Buckeyes. He is survived by his fiancée, Sarah Ayers of Toledo; son, Jeremy Ruffner of Whitehouse; daughter, Heather Ruffner of Virginia; mother, Marlyn (Don) Thornton of Perrysburg; father, Jerry (Jan) Ruffner of Bowling Green; sister, Rhonda (Bill) Fackler of Bryan; brothers, Richard (Dana) Ruffner of Perrysburg, Jamie (Jess) Ruffner of Bowling Green; step-brothers and sisters, Marc (Amy) Pickett, Michele (Paul) Boland, Marsha (Curtis) Moore, Jacquie (Tim) Holmes, Barbara (Tom) Plotner, Bernard (Donna) Thornton, Ron (Amy) Thornton, and nephews, Kyle, Lucas and Adam Fackler. Buckley “Buck” Holton, 84, died Sunday, November 15, 2009, at his home. He was a long time Perrysburg resident. He attended Cornell University and the University of Virginia and worked for Libbey-Owens-Ford for more than 30 years. He served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and flew 35 bombing missions out of Siapan as a tail gunner on a B-29 flying fortress. He took part in a veteran’s history project, where he told of returning from his 35th mission to the celebration of the Japanese surrender. During his working years, Mr. Holton volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Junior Achievement. After retirement, Mr. Holton enjoyed woodworking, cabinetry and renovating old houses. He also was an avid fisherman, boater, and enjoyed exploring the United States on long car trips. More recently, he enjoyed working out and then breakfast out with a large circle of good friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lillie-Dunn; sons, Buckley and Douglas; daughter, LillieDunn; daughters-in-law, Donna and Dawn; son-in-law, Bill; grandchildren, Sarah, Robbie, Kate, Patrick, Malcolm, Gabrielle and Mackenzie. Wilma Celestia Schneider, born to William and Bertha (Birkin) Johnson on November 13, 1919, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at The Heritage in Findlay. She was a lifelong resident of Wood County, recently residing in Findlay to be close to family. A 1937 graduate of Perrysburg High School and a 1939 graduate of Bowling Green College, Wilma began a teaching career at Rudolph School in 1939. She continued teaching, with her career taking her to the Dowling School for one year; she then earned her bachelor of education degree from Bowling Green State University in 1959, and continued teaching for the Rossford Exempted Schools (Glenwood and Eagle Point) for the remainder of her 27 years of teaching. After retirement, she tutored in the Eastwood School District. She married Bernard Schneider on December 26, 1940, at Christ Lutheran Church, Dowling. Ms. Schneider had been an active member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg and its Ruth Circle. She and her husband were members of the Clodcrushers Farm Council. She was a charter member and served as treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority, Rho Chapter. After retirement, she participated in reenactments of the early days of education in Wood County for elementary students at the “Little Red Schoolhouse” on the campus of Bowling Green State University. For several years she quilted with the Dorcas Circle of the Salem Lutheran Church, Pemberville. She was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and the Wood County Retired Teachers, where she served as historian. She also had been a part of the Monday Teachers Group and the Bowling Green Mall Walkers. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Michigan, Hawaii, Alaska, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, Missouri, and overseas. She also enjoyed playing cards in her card clubs. She took on the responsibility of farm manager after her husband’s death. She is survived by her daughter, Janelle (Larry) Busdeker of Findlay; granddaughter, Lindsey (Craig) Hauzie of Westerville; grandson, Lance (Abigail) Busdeker of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Claire Hauzie and Evan Hauzie; cousins, Dorothy Fox, Melvin Johnson, and Evelyn Bowen; nieces, Conni Johnson, Pat Hayden, Georgi Gilmet, Linda Wolf, and nephews, Bill and Dennis Johnson, Kevin Schneider and Gael Fisher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, in May 1971. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Lester (Florence) Johnson of Perrysburg. Jeanette (Thomas) Lebowsky, 91, a resident of Avalon by Otterbein at Monclova, Ohio, died November 12, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. She was a former resident of Perrysburg and Point Place. She was born to Joseph Bernard and Emilie “Millie” (Schaal) Thomas on November 9, 1918, in St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, the hospital her maternal grandfather, Melchior Schaal, had built as masonry/brick contractor, completing it in 1875. She was fond of the fact that she was born two days before the end of World War I, having been alive during all the major U.S. wars in the 20th and 21st centuries to date. She was a 1936 graduate of Central Catholic High School. On October 3, 1942, Jeanette married Edward Lebowsky, at the former St. Mary’s Church, in Toledo. In the early 1960s, after raising her children, Ms. Lebowsky returned to the work force at the former Lion Store, and was the cashier and head bookkeeper for Werkman’s Ace Hardware, Point Place, for 17 years. She retired in the mid-1970s to travel with her husband in their motor home, wintering in Largo, Florida, and spending summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Her hobbies included travel, especially to Florida, Disney World, and the Western states, knitting, crafting and playing her Hammond organ. She served as secretary to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the Diocese of Toledo. In that capacity, she traveled to the Holy Land twice, and went to Rome, Italy, where she met Mother Theresa of Calcutta when staying at the Poor Clares Convent in that city. She was secretary to the Vicar for Religious, Diocese of Toledo, retiring at age 75, only when budget cuts eliminated her position. She then volunteered as secretary for the Department of Volunteers at the former Riverside Mercy Hospital and then the Medical Records Department of the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, from 2000 until 2006. She is survived by her son, Edward (Martha) Lebowsky of Livonia, Michigan; daughters, Mary Lou King of Toledo, and Judith “Toody” (Scott) Shook of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Amy Lebowsky, Edward Lebowsky, Beth Lebowsky, all of the Detroit area, and Rob (Kate) Lebowsky of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Carrie (Bill) Carr of Toledo, and Christy (Dave) Wheeler of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Elizabeth (Timothy Combs) Shook of Toledo, and Stephanie (Matthew) Zunk of Perrysburg; greatgrandchildren, Harrison Zarecki, James Carr, Abigail and Ian Wheeler, Aubrey and Timothy Combs, all of Toledo; sisters- in-law, Eleanor Carpenter and Dorothy “Midge” Thomas, both of Toledo. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, November 16, at The Historic Church of St. Patrick, Toledo, with the Rev. Richard Yost, O.S.F., nephew of Ms. Lebowsky, officiating. He was born November 15, 1943, in Toledo, to Frank and Antoinette (Rhodes) Phillipps. He graduated from Maumee Valley Country Day School in 1962. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a remodeling contractor. Mr. Phillipps was a member of The Slagle Trout Club in Michigan, The Laurel Hill Swim and Tennis Club, Perrysburg Tennis Club; The Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, where he was a board member, and a former member of the Toledo Country Club. He enjoyed playing tennis, fishing, sailing, windsurfing and woodworking. Mr. Phillipps is survived by his wife, Pam Phillipps; children, Steve (Kristy) Phillipps and Julie (Michael Hurley) Phillipps; grandchildren, Cameron Hurley, Jamey and Zoe Phillipps; brother, Tom (Laura) Phillipps, and nephews, Thomas and Nicholas Phillipps. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 19, at 11 a.m, at The Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, 502 East Second Street, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. VIRGINIA WIEGAND Sandra Lee (Scott) Conley, 71, of Perrysburg and formerly of Northwood, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Advanced Specialty Hospital of Toledo. She was born in Toledo, on March 13, 1938, to John And Lila (Cronkright) Scott and was a graduate of Olney High School in Northwood. She was married on December 23, 1961, in Winchester, Indiana, to Marvin Conley. For more than 21 years, Ms. Conley was a custodian for Northwood Schools and had been a member of Northwood Church of God. She was a member of the Northwood Seniors, Golden Eagles and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Northwood Fire Station No.1. She is survived by her daughters, Lawnie (Jamie) Loboschefski, Lila (Dan) Croley and Georgia-Dell Marie Conley; sons, Mark Conley and John (Tabitha) Conley; grandchildren, Eddie, Tiffany and James Napier, Katelynn Conley, ElaniMarie Conley, Spencer Garcia, Parker Conley and Madalyn, Melissa and Dylan Conley, and brothers, George (Mae) Scott and Dellas Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, and son, Marvin Ray Conley. Funeral services were held Monday, November 9, at Northwood Church of God, with the Rev. David Grogg officiating. Michael Ryan Dean, 25, formerly of Perrysburg, died November 2, 2009. He was born November 9, 1983, to Kevin Dean (Rebecca) of Perrysburg and Debbie Shaffer (Thomas) of Bainbridge, Ohio. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 2002 and graduated summa cum laude from Bowling Green State University in 2005, where he also was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society. He was employed as a senior accountant at a major accounting firm in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. He had a passion for knowledge, music, and skateboarding. He is survived by his parents; brother, Jason, and sister, Lauren; stepbrother, Ryan Shaffer, and stepsister, Alexandra Shaffer; grandparents, Shirley MacDonald, Robert Taylor (Sherrie Skall Taylor) and Loretta Nemeth, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were held Friday, November 6, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bedford Heights, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to the Cleveland Institute of Music. Thomas D. Geracioti, M.D., 76, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee. He was born October 15, 1933, in Akron, Ohio, to Dr. Thomas and Anna (Molé) Geracioti. He was a 1951 graduate of Spencer High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Neidhardt, on August 20, 1955, in Medina, Ohio. He received a bachelor’s degree from Western Reserve in 1954 and his medical degree in 1959 from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C. Dr. Geracioti served his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus and returned to Washington, D.C., where he served his fellowship in nephrology at Georgetown University Medical Center. He was the first nephrologist in the Toledo area, having moved to Toledo in 1963 with his wife. Dr. Geracioti had private practice offices and was an attending physician throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. He was a clinical faculty member of the former Medical College of Ohio and opened a dialysis unit in Bowling Green. He served as director of the blood bank program with the Red Cross, was a co-founder of the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio and served as councilor for the Academy of Medicine. He was a member of the PHI CHI Medical Fraternity, the Toledo Rotary Club, The Toledo Club, where he was a founder of the symposium, the Carranor Hunt and Polo Club, the Adams Co. Conservation Club and the Ringneck Ridge Hunt Club. Dr. Geracioti was an Italian opera aficionado. Edwin “Ed” Albert Mutchler, 91, died Friday, November 6, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born in Perrysburg, on February 5, 1918, to Albert and Ida (Lukert) Mutchler. He graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1936, and later graduated from Davis Business College in Toledo. He married Josephine “Jo” Mutchler on June 28, 1942, and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Muthcler was a lifelong member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg, as was his father before him. During World War II, he worked at Willys Overland Plant, now known as Jeep. He went on to work there for nearly 42 years, retiring in 1985. While retired, Mr. Muthcler enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends, with trips that included Hawaii and Germany, as well as winter stays in Las Vegas. After retiring, he bought a Ford Model T, which he didn’t keep too long, as he found a car that was very similar to his first car, a Ford Model A. As a member of the Flying Quail Model A Club, Mr. and Mrs. Mutchler made frequent trips in their Model A, and enjoyed participating with their grandchildren in parades, such as the Roche de Beouf Parade in Waterville and most of the parades held in Perrysburg. Mr. Mutchler also was a long time member of Harbor View Yacht club, where he was the owner of their Lyman Islander, Muchie. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Iris Yvonne Rudolph, of Perrysburg Township, died November 5, 2009. She was born in Mariana, Florida, to Oscar and Bera Mae (Carlile) Whitehurst. She was a graduate of Bay High School in Panama City, Florida, and worked as a dental hygienist and a medical office administrator. She married Willis Jones, who was killed in World War II over Germany as a B-17 pilot. They had two daughters, Joy Eloise and Jerry Elaine. In 1955, she married Philip Rudolph Sr., of Perrysburg Township, and had a son, Philip Rudolph Jr. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, the Toledo Country Club and played in the Ladies 9-Hole League. She also was a member of the Toledo Club, Perrysburg Garden Club, Carranor Hunt & Polo Club, and Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater, Florida. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing in two bridge clubs and a ladies bowling league. She enjoyed entertaining and cooking at home, honing her skills in culinary art classes. She created awardwinning flower arrangements and carefully tended a large rose garden at her home. Raised in Florida, she grew up enjoying beaches, the ocean and especially sunsets. Karen (Schaller) Swartz, 69, of Perrysburg, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio. She was born in Lima, Ohio, on November 17, 1939, to Willard and Helen (Thomas) Schaller. She married Robert Swartz on July 18, 1959, in Waterville, Ohio. From 1965 to 1985, she was a teacher, coach, advisor, dean of students and athletic director for Rossford Public Schools. She had been inducted into both the Rossford High School and Anthony Wayne High School Athletic Halls of Fame. She was a volunteer coordinator for 10 years with the Wood County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, Ohio, Order of the Eastern Star, Perrysburg, and in her spare time she enjoyed being with family, reading, and watching sporting events. She attended Medical Technology School in Cleveland for one year and worked at the Toledo Hospital as a lab technician. She married Karl Williams June 12, 1935. Schauweker, 91, of Perrysburg, died October 30, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on October 14, 1918, to Howard and Cecil (Allion) Schauweker. He was a graduate of Bowling Green High School and received a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts from Bowling Green State University and worked toward his master’s degree in engineering at Penn State University, where he taught Air Force ROTC for three years. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Mr. Schauweker volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1941. He graduated from flying school and received a pilot’s rating and commission in April 1942. After completion of 48 combat missions and 21 months as a B17 pilot in New Guinea, he was the personal pilot for the Commanding General of the Fifth Air Force. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal and the 5th Air Force Distinguished Unit Badge. He was recalled to active military service during the Korean War and retired from the USAF at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Upon returning to civilian life, Mr. Schauweker was employed by Libbey- Owens-Ford, H.H. Buggie Co., Gendron Wheel Co., Continental Aviation, Permaglass, Inc. and Rimer Precision Casting and later became a manufacturer’s sales representative for various companies in northwest Ohio. He married Mary Kathryn Kazmaier of Perrysburg, on July 22, 1944, at Zoar Lutheran Church. Following his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed wintering in the southern part of Florida for almost 35 years. Together they enjoyed being members of the Toledo Club, Lamplighter Dance Club and were supporters of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre. Mr. Schauweker was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church, the Perrysburg Exchange Club, Maumee Elks and the Perrysburg American Legion. He had been a Waterville resident for 44 years. He was born on April 7, 1928 to Edmund Wheelden, Sr. and Lillian (Piper) Wheelden in Worcester, Massachusetts. Formerly a Perrysburg resident, he was a graduate of Perrysburg High School, class of 1946. After graduation, Mr. Wheelden attended the Ohio State University, but his studies were interrupted when he was drafted into the army during the Korean War. He proudly served his country as a member of the 5th Regimental Combat Team. Upon returning from Korea, he enrolled at Bowling Green State University, where he graduated in 1955 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. After graduation, he joined the General Motors Parade of Progress, a traveling show of science and technology, where he served as lecturer and driver of the Futurliner. Following brief employment at the Toledo Chamber of Commerce in public relations, Mr. Wheelden joined a typesetting firm, Quality Composition Company, where he eventually became president and CEO. He sold the company in 1990 and retired in 1993. He married the former Florence Herman, on December 30, 1955. Mr. Wheelden was a founding member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and served on the vestry as the church’s first senior warden. He also sang in the choir for 25 years. His interests included family, fishing, camping, reading and sports. He served as president of the Anthony Wayne Band Boosters in the early 1980s. He was a member of the Toledo Sales and Marketing Executives, where he served as executive secretary; the Toledo Jr. Chamber of Commerce, and the Waterville Historical Society. Surviving are his wife, Florence; sons, Jeffrey (Valerie Stephenson, Donovan, and Samantha), Toledo; Timothy and his wife, Pamela, Grand Rapids; Brian, Perrysburg; and daughter, Martha Everhart and her husband, Bradley, Toledo; grandchildren include Kevin Wheelden and Alison, Michael and Jacob Everhart. She was a member of The Sewing Club from Maumee High School, which has met for more than 60 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and extended family. Josephine Emily (Kmotorka) Mutchler died Monday, October 12, 2009, at the Kingston Residence in Perrysburg. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 12, 1922, to Joseph and Mary Kmotorka. As a young girl she moved to Toledo, where she graduated from Waite High School. She married Edwin Mutchler on June 28, 1942. She was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church in Perrysburg. Mrs. Mutchler had various jobs over the years. During World War II, she worked at Peters Stamping making shell casings. After her children had grown, she went back to work at Commodore Perry Hotel as a banquet waitress, then moved on to Wooden Indian restaurant at the French Quarter in Perrysburg. She finished her work career after working 14 years for the Jeep Corporation. While retired, she enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, with trips that included Hawaii and Germany, as well as winter stays in Las Vegas. As a member and past president of the Flying Quail Model A Club, she and her husband made frequent trips in their Model A. Mrs. Mutchler enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, cross stitching, and visiting antique stores and garage sales with her daughter, Denise. Caroline “Carol” Mac-Nichol Orser, 80, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. The daughter of Emma (Smith) and George MacNichol Jr., she was born July 30, 1929, in Toledo. She attended Maumee Valley Country Day School and graduated from Smith College; she spent her junior year in Paris. After her graduation, she was a staff lecturer at the Toledo Museum of Art and then a staff reporter for two years at The New Yorker in the “Goings On About Town” department. In June 1955, she married Peter Orser of Perrysburg. A large part of her community service was devoted to the Toledo Museum of Art. She was a docent for 10 years and was named to the board of directors in 1968; a member of the Museum Aides since 1961, serving as president from 1969 to 1971, and was a volunteer assistant curator for the Works on Paper department from 1984 to 2003. She also participated in the United Way Campaign for many years and was chairman of the women’s division from 1981 to 1984. She served on the board of the former Luella Cummings School for girls and was a longtime member of the Country Garden Club. In 1980, she was a delegate to the Republican National Convention. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Maumee. She is survived by her husband, Peter; daughter, Caroline Orser; sons, Peter Orser and George Orser; grandchildren, Philip Castro, Lolly, Maddie and Claire Orser; brother, Roland MacNichol, and sister-in-law, Sally MacNichol. He was employed with Libbey-Owens-Ford Rossford Plant 6 in the bending department for 40 years before retiring in 1993. He also was a longtime employee with Witzler- Shank Funeral Home, where he helped both the Witzler and Shank families for more than 52 years. He married Lois Redouty on August 28, 1954, in Perrysburg. In his spare time when not working or volunteering at the funeral home, he enjoyed working in his garden and tinkering around the house. He was an active member of St. Rose Church, where he served as an usher during the 5 p.m. Mass, and also cooked fish during Friday night Lenten fish fries. Hall, 76, of Perrysburg, died Monday, September 14, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born November 13, 1932, in Toledo, to James and Lucille (Urschel) Morris III. In 1957, she married Edward Finney and resided in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, where they raised their two children, Sarah and Reed. She married Malcolm Hall in 1987, and he preceded her in death in 1997, at which time she moved back to Perrysburg. In the early 1970s Ms. Hall was one of the first women who started the Hospice Movement in New Jersey. For many years, she and her husband Ed were the prime owners of Panelgraphic Corp. in West Caldwell, New Jersey. She enjoyed volunteering her time and was a contributor to many non-profit organizations. She enjoyed poetry, interior design, and watching baseball and tennis on television. Peeples died September 20, 2009. He was born in Toledo, on June 25, 1945, to Maurice and Florence Peeples. Mr. Peeples was a veteran of the U.S. Army, had a long career as a hair stylist, but was known to most as one who could accomplish anything from gardening to home repair and construction. His greatest pride was the total restoration of an 1820s home in Westfield, New York, along with his partner. Larson, 81, of Perrysburg Township, died Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the home of his son in Bowling Green. Mr. Larson was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a corporate pilot for Owens-Illinois for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He served two terms as a Perrysburg Township Trustee. Mr. Larson was a former member of the Perrysburg Phoenix Lodge #123 F&AM, a former member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, past director and president for the Zenobia Lancers, and president of the Zenobia Pilots in 1998. He was a member of the Quiet Birdmen and American Legion Post 28 in Perrysburg. He was born July 29, 1928, to Walter and Jenny (Johns) Larson. He married Constance “Connie” Wiemeyer on December 10, 1951, in Toledo. Mr. Larson is survived by his daughter, Cathy (Bill) Manning, of Dumfries, Virginia; sons, David (Christy) of Asheville, North Carolina, and Eric (Jan) of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Sarah, Stephanie, Jonathan, Anna and Alexia and significant other, Enith Smalley. He was born on June 29, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Calvin and Esther (Tappe) Ferguson. He married Barbara Sellen on December 21, 1953. He graduated from Bay Village High School and Hiram College and served as a naval flight officer in the Korean War, attaining the rank of lieutenant. An avid aviation buff from his early years, he had his private pilot’s license at age 17. He joined the Navy and completed Navy Flight School, receiving his Wings of Gold in 1953. He obtained his civilian FAA flight instructor’s ratings in commercial and instrument flying in 1968, then proceeded to teach his son, Jim, to fly, soloing him on his 16th birthday. As a parttime freelance flight instructor, he flew several hundred hours of dual instruction, teaching many people throughout the Toledo area. He worked for Libbey-Owens-Ford for 30 years, retiring in 1987 as superintendent of automotive glass fabrication at the Rossford plant. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome. Mr. Ferguson is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, James (Barb Farley), Thomas (Marla); daughter, Patricia (Dave) McLean; grandchildren, Reid, Erin and Laura McLean and Kyle and Taylor Ferguson. He worked for the Norfolk & Western Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Ball served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and Philippine Liberation. He enjoyed playing softball until he was in his 30s. She graduated from Payne High School and was awarded bachelor of education and master of education degrees from Bowling Green State University. Prior to that, she was a career coordinator at Penta Vocational High School, a former member of the Dean of Students staff at Heildelberg College in Tiffin, and a guidance counselor at St. John’s Jesuit High School, Toledo. Hoelter, 77, of Perrysburg, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009. He was born on February 24, 1932, in Luckey, Ohio, to John and Anna (Landwehr) Hoelter. He graduated in 1950, from Troy High School, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He married Joanne Tiede on February 10, 1952, in Luckey. He was employed as a meat cutter and meat supervisor at A&P in Toledo, and later was the store manager of their Bowling Green store. In August of 1977, Mr. Hoelter purchased the local grocery store in Luckey, renaming it Hoelter’s Supermarket and ran the store with his family until his retirement in 1995. He attended Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Perrysburg. He enjoyed coaching Little League, and playing dart ball, bowling and euchre. Mr. Hoelter is survived by his wife, Joanne; sons, Jon (Janice) Hoelter and Tom (Charlene) Hoelter, both of Perrysburg; daughter, Tamra (Norm) Mielke of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Amber, Justin, Joseph, Matthew, Jason and Emily, and sister, Arlene Shaw of Silver Springs, Maryland. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Clyde Incledon, 78, of Perrysburg, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s Toledo unit. He was born in New York City April 6, 1931. Heading west as an adult, he attended Bowling Green State University, where he met Mary (Polly) Shepard Lapham. They married on July 30, 1955. He worked various jobs before he began working for Chrysler at the machining plant in Perrysburg, where he retired in 1993, after 25 years of service. He was a licensed paralegal and an active union member at Local 1435. As a member of the UAW, he helped his fellow members as a consumer affairs advocate for legal matters. He enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, and playing golf. He also enjoyed telling stories. As a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg, he was active in many church functions including as a church elder. He is survived by his wife, Doris (Thornton), whom he married on April 20, 1996. He also is survived by his children: Amey Raihala, Rex (Laurie) Incledon, Richard (Debra) Incledon and Becca Incledon; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Polly, on June 15, 1992. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life was held Saturday, July 11, at the First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg. So that others in the medical fields can learn, Mr. Incledon donated his body to UT Medical center. Dorothy Opal (Walker) (Smithers) Gilley died Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Eleanor Jennings Adult Care Facility in Rossford. She was born August 27, 1913, in Merryville, Louisiana, to James and Della Walker. On June 7, 1930, she married Robert Ford Smithers and moved to Toledo. She worked at City Auto Stamping. Her husband, Robert, died, and she raised their three children as a single mother. She later worked for several Toledo area Kroger stores, was a union steward for many years, and retired after 22 years with the Kroger. Soon after, she married Joseph Gilley and they moved to Hemphill, Texas. They were married for 25 years. After his death, Ms. Gilley moved back to the Toledo area to be close to family. She resided at Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Living Community for 4-1/2 years, where she made many friends and lived a few doors away from her daughter, Jennie Ferguson. Ms. Gilley recently moved to the Eleanor Jennings Adult Care Facility. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Luckey, Ohio. MICHEL KAZAN MARILYN NAVEAUX CAROL SPOERL NANCY GARNER HUMMER RALPH GATTSHALL LEONA SANKIEWICZ Mary Ann Skotynsky, 83, died June 30, 2009, at Toledo Hospital. She was born December 22, 1925, to Gregory “Harry” and Mary (Kusner) Wulczak. Her childhood home was the old farmhouse on Bates Road where she grew up with her three brothers, Michael, Peter and William, and two sisters, Anita and Natalie. While attending Perrysburg High School, she had her first job as an “ice cream scoop girl” at Broske’s in downtown Perrysburg. Soon after graduating, she ventured off to Chicago to become a teletypist at Western Union. After a few years, her friend Paul Skotynsky traveled there to bring her back since in his eyes it was “no place for a single girl.” Soon after, he asked her to be his bride. At that time, food was rationed due to the war. They traded and borrowed rations to come up with the necessary items to host their wedding reception. To support the family, Mary worked various secretarial and administrative positions at Toledo Building Maintenance, AT&T, AP Parts Co., Foster Brothers & Weber, LOF Local 9, and the Toledo Board of Education Food Services. She is survived by her sons, Paul (Marilyn) Skotynsky, Michael Scott (Skotynsky), and Matthew (Lea) Skotynsky; grandchildren, Beth, Brian, Kevin, Mitchel, Bridge and Michael; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Collin, Morgan, Katie, Sydney and Caden, and sister, Natalie Bohaczenko. Wilcox, 59, of Perrysburg, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at his home. He was born on August 30, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to James and Anna Mae Wilcox. He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a master’s degree in education and became a teacher of French, drama and English. He taught for 35 years, including 23 years at Rossford High School, five years at Dexter High School in Dexter, Michigan, and was a member of NEA and OEA. Mr. Wilcox enjoyed theater and directing plays. He took many students on school trips, some of which included France, Quebec, New York, Stratford, Chicago and London. He directed the summer theater program for children in the Rossford community for many years, was a member of the Village Players and a member of the Fremont Community Theater. He was honored for his devotion to his work and students with the Rossford High School stage being named in his honor. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Janet (Smith) Wilcox; sister inlaw, Sandy (Gherin) Johnston and brother in-law, Robert (Sue) Smith. JOHN LeBLANC PAUL HUDSON ADELAIDE MORSE Lucille Jean (Gross) Emch, 73, of Maynard, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. She was born on February 10, 1936, in Wood County, to Carl and Irene (Brinker) Gross. She was baptized and confirmed at Stony Ridge Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, Ohio. In 1954, she graduated from Webster School in Scotch Ridge, Ohio. On June 5, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard Emch at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. They lived in Perrysburg for four years before moving to Haskins, Ohio, in 1959. In 1974, they moved to Maynard. She was active in both church and community. After her retirement from 28 years as MacCray school secretary, she held positions in Lac qui Parle Conference WELCA, Global Missions, Maynard Lions Club and Hearing Dog Chairman in District 5-M, Heritage Hill Antique Power Association, and book club. She enjoyed attending all the events that involved her grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and had been to every state except Alaska, and that was in their future plans. Joan Patricia Southward, 74, of Toledo, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Lutheran Village at Wolf Creek. She was born on June 7, 1934, to Joseph and Helen (Mazur) Taper in Rossford. Audrey (Pinkerton) Gentieu, 86, former resident of Perrysburg, died Saturday, May 16, 2009. She was born on October 18, 1922, to Sherwood and Helen (Moyer) Pinkerton in Toledo. She grew up in Toledo’s Westmoreland neighborhood with her three sisters. Mrs. Gentieu was a graduate of DeVilbiss High School and attended the University of Toledo for two years before marrying Edward Gentieu in 1942. Mrs. Gentieu was a prolific artist. By kindergarten, her talent blossomed, and she continued her artwork until struck by a sudden illness two days before she died. Pastel portraiture was her particular niche. Her commissioned portraits from the 1950s and 1960s hang in many Toledo homes, businesses and public buildings. As a resident at Wolf Creek nursing home in Holland, Ohio, she participated in local and state art competitions and won awards every year. In 2008, she was honored by a show at the Parkwood Gallery of her fairly recent golden-era movie star portraits. She was an employee of the Perrysburg Messenger Journal in the 1970s. She is survived by her children, Peter Gentieu, Goldvein, Virginia, Sally (John) Welch, Perrysburg, and Penny Gentieu (Tom Friemoth), Toledo; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Julia (Robert) Collins, Portland, Oregon, and Shereen (Jose) Ricoy, Salem, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gentieu was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years in 1984, and her oldest sister, Elise Stewart. He married Katharine Hasel on May 21, 1955. Mr. Hess was a pipe fitter for Libbey-Owens-Ford for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and he sang in their choir. He also was a member of Perrysburg Symphony Chorale. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, family bonfires and gardening. Machala, 93, of Rossford, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. A lifelong resident of Rossford, he was born on March 16, 1916, to Paul and Pauline (Suchan) Machala. He was employed for 45 years at the former Libbey- Owens-Ford as the wareroom foreman. He was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church and his father, who immigrated from Czechoslovakia, was instrumental in founding the former St. Cyril and Methodius Church in 1923. He was a veteran of World War II. He was proud of his ability to build boats as a young man. Also, in his earlier years, he enjoyed annual trips to Black Lake, Michigan, with family, golfing, fishing, bowling and gardening. Mr. Machala is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanette (Ziemianski); daughters, Eleanor “Ellie” (Paul) Kotowicz of Perrysburg, and Marie (Rick) Crosby of Mt. MILDRED NAHM NORMA REITZEL John E. “Jack” Springer, 79, died on April 29, 2009, at Heartland of Perrysburg. He was born on December 9, 1929, in Flint, Michigan, to Rosemary (O’Rourke) and Raymond Springer. He spent most of his life living in the Detroit, Michigan, area. After attending a military school in Georgia, he graduated from Sandusky High School in 1947. In 1955, he received a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Detroit. He met his future wife, Helen Mika, in 1950 on a triple blind date, and they were married in 1954, settling in Dearborn, Michigan. His business career was spent as a branch manager with the Viking Fire Protection Company. In the 1960s, the Springer’s moved to Perrysburg, where Mr. Springer was active in the community and with St. Rose Catholic Church. He was actively involved with the Perrysburg Township in various positions. Through St. Rose he was on the Pastoral Council, the Liturgy Committee, the Retreat Team and the Cursillo Movement. He was commissioned as a eucharistic minister, bringing communion to the sick, and was awarded the St. George Award from the Toledo Archdiocese for his volunteer efforts. GEORGE EMERSON Valeria “Violet” Katherine (Jankowski) Welker, 83, of Perrysburg, and formerly of south Toledo, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg. She was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, on November 9, 1925 to Peter and Pelagia “Pearl” (Kwapiczewski) Jankowski and was married to Robert Welker. During the early 1950s, she was a secretary for the UAW Local 12. She enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, spending time with family and playing Scrabble with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Kennelly of Perrysburg; granddaughters, Karen (Todd) Kurek and Kristi Kennelly; great-grandchildren Danielle, Robert, Kaitlin and Matthew Kurek, and Meagan and Lauren Mueller and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on February 27, 2001. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Jankowski, and sisters, Theresa Bobroski and Frances Wisniewski. ELIZABETH CLEMENT Florence “Ginny” Virginia Windom, died April 23, 2009 at her home. She was born November 26, 1921, in Perrysburg, to Edward and Charlotte (Brossia) Reitz. She graduated from Lake High School in 1940, and married Ronald “Danny” Windom on October 21, 1950. She was an office manager for Toledo Metal Spinning and Duncan Metal Spinning for 42 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Windom enjoyed bowling, playing cards and fishing. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; children, Patricia (Robert) Wilkins, Linda Hollen and Larry (Lynda) Windom; grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Christine) Wilkins, Michelle (Greg) McElroy, Sara Wilkins, Lauren Wilkins, Jennifer Hollen and Shannon Windom; sisters-inlaw, Florence Windom, Susie Windom, Joyce Reitz and Arla Reitz, and many nieces and nephews. Joseph Phillip Tymiak, 79, of Rossford, died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born November 2, 1929, in Toledo, to Phillip and Mary (Waynar) Tymiak. A Rossford High School graduate, he married Rosemary Newbury on November 25, 1950. Mr. Tymiak served as a mechanic in the United States Army. He worked for Libbey- Owens-Ford as a maintenance mechanic for 41 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he worked as a bailiff for the Perrysburg Municipal Court System for 15 years. He was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church and was actively involved in various activities. He was a past master of Phoenix Lodge #123 F.A.M., past president of the Wood County Shrine Club, and currently a 32nd Degree Mason, a Roadrunner for the Shriners, driving sick and injured children to various hospitals. He was a motorcycle safety instructor and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He traveled to all 50 states and most of the world. He also enjoyed attending Bowling Green State University women’s basketball games. ELEANOR KAISER MARJORIE SCALIA PEGGY ZELLNER PHILLIP KOPP Emma Belle (Scott) Vitty, 84, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in her home. She was born on March 16, 1925, to Coming “Bob” and Carrie (Alexander) Scott in Stilwell, Oklahoma, where she attended Marietta School. In the third grade, she attended Dwight Mission Boarding School until her high school years, where she attended and graduated from Chilocco Indian School. Ms. Vitty was a riveter with Boeing Aircraft and worked on the first plane to drop a bomb during World War II. She entered the nursing program at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where as a Cadet Corps nurse she served during World War II. She worked in Alabama at the Prattville General Hospital, the Baptist Hospital, the Montgomery VA Hospital and Fort Dix Army Hospital in New Jersey. She retired after 45 years of nursing. She received her bachelor of science degree in health arts in 1986, at the age of 64, from the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Prattville, Alabama, and the Montgomery, Alabama, Alcazar Shrine- Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by her daughters, Jennie (Matt) Vitty-Rogers of Marietta, Georgia, and Laura (Dr. David) Weaver of Perrysburg; sisters, Peggy Williamson of Tahlequah, and Polly Scraper of Stilwell, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gogel, 85, of Perrysburg, died April 3, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo, on January 31, 1924, to Adelbert and Leona (Grant) Gogel and lived in south Toledo, where he attended Harvard Elementary School until the family moved to Maumee in 1936. After graduating from Maumee High School in 1942, he attended the Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army with the 29th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Group from 1943 to 1946. He saw action in Europe and was awarded four Bronze Star medals for his participation in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland. He then attended the University of Toledo. On June 29, l957, he married Phyllis Weiker at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Toledo. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. Mr. Gogel retired from Plaskon Products in 1989, after 42 years of employment. He enjoyed canoeing and fishing in the Maumee River and the lakes of Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. In the fall he hunted ducks and geese in the Maumee River. He kept in touch with his Army buddies and attended many reunions of the 29th AAA Group. He also kept in touch with his classmates from the Maumee High School Class of ’42 and attended their quarterly luncheons. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis; son, Mark; grandson, Zachary, and granddaughter, Gabrielle. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Gogel. ALLEN HENDERSON Marvel Geane Hollerbach, 75, of Perrysburg, died unexpectedly on Friday, April 3, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was born on December 11, 1933, to Marvin and Lucille (Bacon) Wood. She was a 1951 graduate of Olney High School. She married Jack Almroth and together they had four children. She worked at Holiday Inn and was co-owner of Almroth Fuel Oil Co., retiring in 1994. She was remarried in 1986 to Raymond Hollerbach. She was an avid reader, a talented oil and watercolor painter and a Thai Chi enthusiast. She had written two books and was currently working on another. Mrs. Hollerbach is survived by her husband, Raymond Hollerbach; children, Mark (Sandra) Almroth, Jill (Derk) Jackson, Julie (Roger Barron) Almroth; stepchildren, Michael Hollerbach, Julie (Paul) Swartz, Debbie (Paul) Lamb of California; 11 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren, and sister, Katherine “Kitty” Wilson. Interment will be private. Anne B. (Harp) Sharp, 92, a former business owner and volunteer, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at the Manor of Perrysburg where she lived for two years. She was born June 22, 1916, in Canton, Ohio, to Mohamed Ali and Dieby (Hady) Harp. She married Roy Sharp September 12, 1937. She owned and operated Sharp Variety from 1953 to 1974. After retiring, she volunteered at RSVP for many years, starting with the Mobile Food Van. She was a member of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo since 1949. She was a member of the Board of Elders Education Membership and Social Services Committees. Ms. Sharp was a secretary of the Federation of Islamic Association for six years. In her later years, she enjoyed greeting friends while assisting in the gift shop. JEANNETTE VANDERVLUCHT George William Hofmann III, a former Perrysburg resident of 29 years died January 30, 2009, in Vancouver, Washington. He was born in 1941, to George and Ruth (Schroder) Hofmann of Northwood, Ohio. He graduated from Waite High School in 1959. While serving in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Scotland, he met his future wife, Patsy Maxwell. George graduated from the University of Toledo in 1970 and Capital Lutheran Seminary in a 1974, with a master’s degree in theology. He was an ordained Lutheran pastor and served several churches, including Grace Lutheran in Colfax, Ohio, and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Maumee. He had a long career as a life insurance salesman, first with Thrivent for Lutherans, followed by Gleaner Life Insurance company. He was a member of the Maumee Elks Club and served as a past president of the Lucas County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogy Society. He retired in 1996 and put his electronics hobby and former Air Force training to good use helping customers as a Radio Shack salesman in Perrysburg. Two years ago, Mr. Hofmann finally “officially retired” and moved with his wife to Vancouver, Washington. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patsy; children, Sherry (Steve) Loniewski of Washougal, Washington, Jill Hofmann of Portland, Oregon, Trish (Eiji) Narimatsu of Beaverton, Oregon, Heather Hofmann of Cleveland; four grandchildren; sisters, Barbara (Ron) Miller of Genoa and Donna (Steve) Golembiewski of Cincinnati; one nephew; three nieces; two great-nephews and five great-nieces. Helen Anna (Mika) Springer, 81, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Lyons, Ohio, on March 26, 1927, to Frank and Anna (Smistik) Mika. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1945 and Siena Heights College in Adrian, Michigan. In 1950, she met her future husband, Jack, on a triple blind date. They married in 1954, and settled in Dearborn, Michigan. Perrysburg became their home in the 1960s, and they were active in the community. Through St. Rose Catholic Church, Helen was commissioned as a Eucharistic Minister bringing communion to the sick; she was a co-chair of the Toledo Diocesan Cursillo Monument, and she led the RCIA program at her church. She was a member of the Perrysburg Garden Club, past president of Anthony Wayne Garden Club and Golden Membership Chairman. She also was a nationally-accredited flower show judge of the Ohio Judges Council. She is survived by Joseph, Jerry (Virginia) and Charles (Dolores), both of Lyons; sister-in-law, Helen; 19 nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank (Marian) and Martin, and her sisters, Mary (Paul) Radcliffe and Frances (Harold) Schneider. ROBERT SCHWANKE HELEN SPRINGER Forest William Uthoff, 88, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Bay Park Community Hospital. He was born January 13, 1921, in Genoa, Ohio, to Emmett and Helen (Knowles) Uthoff. He married Claribel “Sally” Vajen on November 21, 1945, in Napoleon, Ohio. Mr. Uthoff worked for Libbey Glass Division as a machine operator for 40 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the O&I’s Club of Owens-Illinois, Golden Emblem Club and the NRA. He managed roller-skating at Forest Park, and enjoyed skating, hunting and fishing. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Mr. Uthoff was preceded in death by his wife, Sally, on March 24, 1996. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Wanda Plauche, and Margaret Baumgardner and brother, Warren J.H. Uthoff. Louis “Lefty” Bauer Sr., 96, of Rossford, died March 12, 2009. He was born on January 10, 1913, in Crystal City, Missouri, to Joseph and Mary (Faikosh) Bauer. He was a resident of Rossford since his early childhood and active in the community. He graduated from Rossford High School in 1932, and worked for Libbey- Owens Ford (Pilkington) Glass Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1974. As a young man he competed at the national level in gymnastics with the Rossford Sokol Club. He once competed in the old Madison Square Garden. He was a member of the Holy Cross Council 5139 of the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree member of Bishop Hoffman Assembly 807. He was awarded the 1997 Member of the Year. He also received many attendance awards. He was a devout member of All Saints Catholic Church. For many years, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and visited the sick and elderly of the Parish with his wife Alice. He also served as an “altar boy” at daily mass. Up to the time of his recent illness, he was fully able to continue to drive his car and live independently. He participated in the Local 9 Glassworkers Retirees bowling league, and worked at a family-owned car wash, performing maintenance well into his 90s. He was an active member of the Rossford Senior Citizen Club and enjoyed attending their daily lunches with his friends. He recently accompanied his friends on a gambling bus trip to Detroit. He also enjoyed going to Thursday night bingo, and attending or watching sporting events on television. He turned down an opportunity to sing in a traveling band to marry Alice (Lehmann) on August 31, 1940. Mr. Bauer is survived by his children, Alice Clark of Arlington, Texas, Diane (Paul) Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Louis (Tricia) Bauer Jr. of Perrysburg; grandchildren, Heather (Gerardo) Crispin, Mark (Susan) Miller, Matthew (Shelly) Miller, Amy (Tony) Walters, Michael Miller, Sarah Bauer, Christopher (Stephanie) Meyer and Andrew (Melissa) Meyer; great-grandchildren, Jacob Sullivan, Gabriela, Juan Carlos, and Gerardo Crispin, Nicholas and Katherine Miller and Alex, Kyle and Kevin Walters, and many special nieces and nephews. Jacoby, 79, of Perrysburg, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at his home. He was born on July 28, 1929, to M. Gerald and Alma (Helmstetter) Jacoby in Fostoria, Ohio. He was a 1947 graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Fostoria, earning six varsity letters. He attended St. Joseph’s College, Collegeville, Indiana, and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1952. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Jacoby married Betty Lyons on September 17, 1955 at St. Wendelin Church in Fostoria. He worked as a public accountant for Arthur Young & Co. from 1954 to 1957 and as controller for Alum-A-Seal Mfg. Co. from 1957 to 1966. He joined Ohio Citizens Trust Co. in 1966, eventually serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer, retiring from National City Bank in 1990. He was a member of St. Rose Parish, Wood County Democrats, Financial Executives Institute, and Bank Administration Institute. He served as a board member and treasurer of various civic organizations: Toledo Convention Bureau; TAGRA (Toledo Area Governmental Research Associan); Toledo Humane Society, and on the board of Family Service of Northwest Ohio. Mr. Jacoby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty; children, Matthew (Alicia) of Nacogdoches, Texas, Michael of Perrysburg, Andrea (Thomas) Brady of Perrysburg, Bart (Svetlana) of New Albany, Ohio, James (Rocio) of Oak Park, Illinois, and Jeanne (Jeff) Eisemann of Saline, Michigan; grandchildren, Angela and Lauren Jacoby, James and Robert Smargiassi, Benjamin Brady, Alexander, Katelin and Erik Jacoby, Mateo and Joseph Jacoby, and Michael, Ryan, and Audrey Neet; sisters, Jane (Bob) Moran, Susan (Arlen) Lowery, and Kathryn (James) Mc- Kelvey. Clement Michael “Mike” Jahn, died Monday March 9, 2009, at Flower Hospital in Sylvania. He was born January 29, 1938, in Wayne, Ohio, to Clement and Minnie (Holt) Jahn. He graduated from Luckey High School in the last class before it consolidated to become Eastwood High School. He attended Bowling Green State University and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. One of his proudest accomplishments was earning pilot certifications in both private and commercial flight. Mr. Jahn was a selfemployed long haul truck driver, retiring in 2002, and attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Maumee. He was a member of Historic Perrysburg and a past member of the Masonic Lodge in Pemberville. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Draheim Jahn; stepchildren, Greg Draheim of Boise, Idaho, Lisa (Jeffrey) Jacobs of Maumee, Dana (Michael) Dueñas of Houston, Texas, Jana Greeno of Dearborn, Michigan; eight step-grandchildren, and cousin, “Rocky” Holt of Oklahoma. ROSETTA MIELE Lewis Henry “Grandpa Buzzy” Ruple, 88, of Perrysburg, died unexpectedly on March 11, 2009. He was born on March 24, 1920, in Toledo, to Henry and Marguerite (Jaeck) Ruple. He attended Lincoln grade school in Toledo and was a 1938 graduate of Scott High School. Mr. Ruple studied engineering at the University of Toledo College of Engineering. During World War II, he served in the United States Army, First Armored Division, Signal Battalion. He participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily and Southern France. He was vice-president of engineering for the Abbey Etna Machine Company in Perrysburg. He retired from the company in 1985. He was responsible for the installation of steel tubing mills for both domestic and international clients. Mr. Ruple served as president of the Zion Lutheran Church council for a number of years. He was instrumental in the development and supervision of the Zion Lutheran Grade School. He provided scholarships to students attending the school. He enjoyed golf, bridge, cruises and spending time at his summer home on Deep Lake in Lower Michigan, with his wife, family and many friends. He is survived by his children, Judith Ruple (James Markland) of The Villages, Florida, Robert Ruple of Perrysburg, and Richard (Kathleen) Ruple of Maumee, and granddaughter, Rebecca Ruple. He also is survived by one niece and two nephews, all of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jane, in 1998; daughter, Barbara, in 1957, and sisters, Lucille and Alice. Bauer, 85, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009. She was born on March 13, 1923, to Stephen and Elizabeth (Radocy) Verbosky. She was a 1941 graduate of Rossford High School. She was honored to be named the May Queen during her senior year. She married Paul Bauer on May 11, 1946. They remained life long residents of Rossford. Together they raised seven children. Betty managed to remain a familiar face in her family’s Rossford grocery store, Verbosky’s Market, helping her brothers behind the checkout counter. After her children were grown, Betty went on to work at St. Charles Hospital Dietary Department, where she enjoyed working in the Nun’s Dining Room and the Coffee Shop until she retired. She is survived by her children, Paulette Zatko, Gerry (Charlie) Brown, Mary Beth (Paul) Wines, Philomene (Steve) Miley, Patrice Salyers, Thomas (Joanne) Bauer and John Michael Bauer; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Stephanie Verbosky and Irene Verbosky; brother-inlaw, Louis Bauer Sr. and special godchild, Diane Bauer Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on December 31, 2005. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Stephen and William Verbosky. (Molnar) Dauer, died March 5, 2009, at the Manor of Perrysburg. She was born February 19, 1933, in Toledo, to Daniel and Irene (Kovacs) Molnar. She graduated from Waite High School in 1951, where she met William Dauer. They were married on May 31, 1952, in Toledo. She attended the University of Toledo, where she earned her real estate license. She worked for numerous local real estate agents and also was a bank teller for Toledo Trust. Ms. Dauer was a past member of the Perrysburg Boat Club, the Maumee Elks, a member of CCL and the First United Methodist Church. She hosted many families through AFS and was a volunteer at Minastrista in Muncie, Indiana. She played bunko for 50 years with the same group of ladies. She provided childcare in her home for more than 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, especially out west, but most of all she enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Rachel Carr (Hayes) Falconer, 100, formerly of Perrysburg, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, in Edina, Minnesota. She was born April 10, 1908, in Toledo, to William and Cora (Crim) Carr. She married Walter Hayes in 1935. He died in 1976. She married Robert Falconer in 1978. Ms. Falconer was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Perrysburg. For many years, she provided and arranged the flowers for the Sunday services, and worked at the annual rummage sales. She was a member of the Perrysburg Garden Club and the New Century Club, and she was a charter member of the Junior League of Toledo. She learned to love birds and nature from her mother. She is survived by her son, Walter “Sandy” (Jean) Hayes of Scotia, New York; daughter, Mary “Betsy” (Gregg) Parks of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; grandchildren Elizabeth Hayes of North Adams, Massachusetts, Laura (Joseph Ayotte) Hayes of Concord, New Hampshire, Scott (fiancée Laurie Cooper) Hayes of Springfield, New Hampshire, Jonathan Parks of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and great-grandson, Dean Ayotte of Concord. He was employed as the vice president of service and installation of Inside Out Recreation (formerly known as Litehouse Pools & Spas). In his spare time, he enjoyed camping and fishing. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan, on May 15, 1928, to William and Ada (Robinson) MacAskill. He married Mary Brooks in Dearborn, Michigan, on November 8, 1958. Mr. MacAskill graduated from the Ford Trade School in Dearborn, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for 32 years as an accountant with the Sun Oil Co., retiring in 1983. She graduated from Waite High School and on August 12, 1939, married Robert Lee Newsom in Toledo. William Charles Parcher, 66, of Perrysburg, died Friday, February 27, 2009, at Flower Hospital. He was born January 22, 1943, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to George and Carrie (Clugston) Parcher. He graduated from Mt. Zion High School and from Andrew Barber College in Columbus, where he later served as instructor. Mr. Parcher and his family transferred to Perrysburg when he began teaching at the Toledo Andrew Barber College location. He currently co-owned and worked at the Commodore Barber Shop in Perrysburg. He married Carol Schalk on May 14, 1994, in Stony Ridge, Ohio. In his spare time, he enjoyed flying radio controlled aircraft and was a member of the Perrysburg Electric River Flyers. An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Merickel- Farley Trout Club, enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member at Tangle Wood Golf Club. He was a HAM Radio operator (KB8TO) and also enjoyed motorcycling, camping and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Anthony “Tony” Louis Pucci, 66, of Perrysburg, died Monday, February 23, 2009, in Houston, Texas. He was born February 1, 1943, in Westerly, Rhode Island, to Louis and Mary (Manfredi) Pucci. He married Judith Horsch on April 14, 1983. Mr. Pucci received both his bachelor of science in engineering degree and his master’s of business administration degree from Cambridge International University. For 10 years, he worked in quality control for Davis-Besse Nuclear Plant, and for six years had been working as a quality engineer for Siemens Energy in Houston, Texas. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed watching movies and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Jacob (fiancée Angela Hessling) Pucci, Megan Pucci, Danielle (Michael Boezi) Pucci and Tiffany Makara; grandchildren, Kayla and Devin Makara, and sisters, Christina Gencarelle and Frances Killeen. She was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to William and Jennie (Beaty) Harman. She married Joseph Augustine on June 26, 1943, at the First Methodist Church of Bellefontaine. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perrysburg for 57 years. She enjoyed her memberships in the League of Women Voters and in PEO, a philanthropic organization promoting educational opportunities for women since 1869. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1969, and earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Toledo. She taught sixth grade at Gateway Middle School for 15 years and was chair of her department when she retired. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society for education and was a founding member of the local Education Symposium planning committee. Mrs. Augustine served two terms on the Way Public Library Board. She and her husband were active in the Perrysburg Arts Council, Historic Perrysburg, the Toledo Symphony, and the Toledo Museum of Art. They enjoyed playing Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Harrison in the Harrison Rally Days Parade. The Augustine’s regularly attended plays at Stratford, Ontario, from the early days of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Melvin John Nitschke, 87, of Rossford, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at his home. He was born December 27, 1921, in Fremont, Ohio, to Anna (Kollat) and Bruno Nitschke. He was a 1939 graduate of Waite High School, and attended Davis Business College in downtown Toledo prior to going to work for Art Iron. He entered the Army near the end of World War II, serving part of that time in Germany post-war. He was honorably discharged from the Army Counter- I n t e l l i g e n c e - Corps. Returning to Art Iron, Mr. Nitschke worked his way up from the mailroom to become director of purchasing with responsibility for all purchasing in Art Iron’s five plants. He retired in 1986. He had a strong interest in boating, and built his first boat with his mother in their garage at an early age. Graduating from canoes and sailboats, he enjoyed several larger powerboat cruisers, the latest being sold in 2003. He was a 50- year member of the Toledo Power Squadron, at one point providing instruction in celestial navigation. She was born in Toledo, on July 2, 1925, to Harry and Ruth (Crane) Buschmann, and was a 1943 graduate of DeVilbiss High School. On November 30, 1946, she married Lawrence “Battle” Ervin in Toledo. She was a former member of Grace United Brethren of Walbridge, the Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer with Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Jaryd graduated from Perrysburg High School in 2008, and was attending the University of Cincinnati. Jaryd was a compassionate and sensitive son, brother, and friend. He was fun loving, witty and always made sure those who loved him were laughing and happy. Jaryd enjoyed art, music and being with his friends and family. He was born June 4, 1947, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to William and Carol (Crow) Hendel, and was a 1965 graduate of Perrysburg High School. He earned his bachelor of science degree cum laude, in business administration in 1969, and in 1970, he received his master’s degree in accounting from Bowling Green State University, where he later received an outstanding alumnus award. He married Sharon “Sherry” Rector on June 14, 1969, and served from 1970 to 1972 as a 1st Lieutenant in U.S. Army Finance Corps. Mr. Hendel was a CPA and former managing partner with KPMG. He then was a CPA and financial planner with his partner, Lou Ann Zuchowski, at Hendel and Zuchowski, LLP. He also was accredited in business valuation, financial forensics, estate planning and personal finances. He served on numerous boards throughout his life and set up many foundations for organizations. A member of the Maumee Rotary Club since 1996, he currently was a board member of the foundation. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Perrysburg, Toledo Museum of Art, and the Perrysburg Rotary Club, where he was a charter member. Mr. Hendel was past director and past treasurer of Camp Courageous, Inc., Black Swamp Conservancy, and the Toledo Chapter of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Certified Financial Planners, the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils, the Institute of Business Appraisers, and the Toledo Estate Planning Council where he currently was serving as director. He was on the board of directors of Blissfield Manufacturing Company, the Audit and Corporate Responsibility Committee of Mercy Health Partners– Northern Region. He served as vice chairman of the Ohio Jobs Credit Authority from 1993 to 2003, appointed by Governor Voinovich when the authority was created by the Ohio legislature in 1993 and re-appointed for a four-year term through January 1999. He was past chairman of the Bowling Green State University Foundation Board of Directors. He was active in Boy Scouts of America throughout his life: Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, Silver Beaver Award, and continued to serve on the board of trustees of the Erie Shores Boy Scout Council to the time of his death, and formerly served as president and treasurer of the board. He was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church since childhood, serving as chairman of the foundation, a member and past president of Belmont Country Club, and former member of the Perrysburg Boat Club and The Toledo Club. During his leisure time, Mr. Hendel enjoyed bicycling, walking, collecting local art, reading, listening to music and spending time with his family at their cottage in The Irish Hills. Hoffman, 62, of Perrysburg, died Thursday, February 5, 2009, in the Toledo Hospital. He was born in Toledo, on March 10, 1946, to Eugene and Edith (McKinnon) Hoffman. He married Suzanne Dahlmeyer on December 23, 1967, in Toledo. He was a 1964 graduate of Woodward High School and received his bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree of education from the University of Toledo. He also received a master’s of arts and science degree and a Ph.D, in English from Bowling Green State University. He taught English for one year at Northwood High School and then at Woodward High School for 34 years, retiring in 2003. He also taught at BGSU and was a director of a learning community entitled PCC (Partners in Context and Community). His interests included humanitarianism, landscape design, photography, theater, salt-water aquariums, liberal politics and the belief in public education. He was a member of the Perrysburg Exchange Club, the Perrysburg Democratic Club, the First Unitarian Church, and the Woodward High School Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter, Laurel (Jim) Clarke of Westlake, Ohio; son, Jay (Laura) Hoffman of Danville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Olivia Clarke, Landon Clarke and Kate Hoffman. He was preceded in death by both parents, and a brother, Dennis Hoffman. A Celebration of Life Service was held Sunday, February 8, at the First Unitarian Church, Toledo. Burial services were private. Arrangements were made by the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the Woodward High School Hall of Fame Scholarship, the Partners in Context and Community at BGSU or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Mary Carr Boyd, 87, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, February 8, 2009, under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Aurora, Illinois, to Jesse and Margaret (Ingwersen) Carr. She grew up in Chicago and attended DePauw University and the University of Missouri, where she met her husband of 66 years, C. Robert Boyd. She followed her mother and several relatives as a member of the Alpha Phi women’s International Fraternity. After her marriage, Mrs. Boyd began an active alumnae role as advisor to the Bowling Green State University chapter. She was later district governor and on the national level, vice president of the organization’s executive board, chairman of the board of trustees, and finally international president for two terms. She also was chairman of the Alpha Phi Foundation, building chairman for the fraternity’s headquarters building in Evanston, Illinois, which is named for her, and for the building’s later enlargement, and chairman of the Alpha Phi International Foundation. While living in Iowa, she was county chairman of the Iowa Women’s Republican Party and headed the state committee to elect a friend for governor. In Perrysburg, she was a founder of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church and a vestry woman, altar guild directress, chairman of building the church’s rectory, presiding judge at local elections and a Perrysburg municipal mediator. She served on the boards of Historic Perrysburg, Inc., Perrysburg Revitalization, Inc., the area American Cancer Society, and Planned Parenthood, and was past president of the Perrysburg Country Garden Club. She is survived by her husband, C. Robert; son, C. Robert Boyd Jr. and his children, Marcus, Eric, Adam and Leslie of Palos Verdes, California; son, William (Lorna) Boyd and their children, Keegan, Avery and Hayden of Santa Barbara, California; brother, John Carr of Pemberville and his daughters, Nancy (James) Taylor, Susan (Wes) Biddle, and Betsy (Michael) Johnson , and sister-in-Iaw, Mrs. Robert Wolpers and her children, Emily and John and his family of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. A memorial service with eucharist will be held tomorrow, February 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Timothy’s Church, 871 East Boundary Street, Perrysburg. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until the time of the service. Arrangements are being made by the Witzler Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg. MARY LOU FRITZ Maryann F. (Gough) Rossi, 67, of Perrysburg, died January 27, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born February 18, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, to Clarence and Ruth (Burke) Gough, and was a 1959 graduate of East Detroit High School. She married Arthur Rossi on September 1, 1961, in Detroit. Mrs. Rossi was an accomplished artist and received her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Toledo and her master’s degree in fine arts from Bowling Green State University. She was a former member of the Athena Society and currently has works on display at Divine Design in Perrysburg. She was the founding member and Queen Mother of the Perrysburg Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Ms. Rossi is survived by her husband, Arthur Rossi; sons, Scott Rossi of Seattle, Washington, and Brian (Jamie) Rossi of Toledo; two grandchildren, Alec and Mitchell Rossi; mother, Ruth Gough of Toledo; sister, Dolores (Ralph) Linley of Coldwater, Michigan, and several nieces, nephews, sisters- in-law and brother-inlaw. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Gough. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 31, at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg, with the Rev. Ann Marshall, officiating. Burial was in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Julie Carol Pohlman Schultz, 43, of Perrysburg, died unexpectedly January 26, 2009. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy, she earned her bachelor of science degree in business administration from Miami University of Ohio and worked as purchasing manager for Dynamic Dies Inc. She was an avid reader and enjoyed running in marathons. Her dedication to charity included working with foundations such as Make-A-Wish, the Kidney Foundation, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Locks of Love, as well as reading to children with Down Syndrome. She is survived by her husband, Dean Schultz; and daughters, Riley, Katie and Molly Pummill; parents, John and Lenore Pohlman of Perrysburg; mothers-inlaw and fathers-in-law, June and Norman Gressman of Rossford, and John and Amy Schultz of Waterville; siblings, J. Thomas (Kris) Pohlman of Delaware, Ohio, Caren (Jeff) Burroughs of York, South Carolina, Daniel Pohlman of Rossford, and Dana (Ted) Erbrecht of Greenville, South Carolina, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Harold “Heck” Sawyer Dishong, 89, of Perrysburg, died Sunday, February 1, 2009. He was born on March 12, 1919, in Deshler, Ohio, to Jacob and Marie (Sawyer) Dishong. After serving his country in the European Theater and at the Battle of the Bulge during World War II, he worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford in Rossford for 27 years. On February 22, 1942, he married Edna Miller. Mr. Dishong raised on a farm was an avid gardener. He restored Willys Jeepsters for a hobby and received numerous awards during his membership in Vintage Auto clubs of the area. He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Edna; son, Daniel; daughters, Lynne (Gary) Mack, Kristine Dishong, Andrea Cline; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela; sister, Madelyn Winkleman, and brother, Donald Dishong. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, at First United Methodist Church, 200 West Second Street, Perrysburg, followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. Karen Louise Wells, 52, of Perrysburg, died Saturday, January 24, 2009. She was born on March 18, 1956, to Edward and Henrietta (Vavrik) Kleinfelter in Fort Knox, Kentucky. She was a 1974 graduate of Perrysburg High School. She married Michael Wells on February 14, 1981. Mrs. Wells was a retail clerk with Seaway FoodTown for 28 years. She was an avid Cleveland Indians and Ohio State fan. A member of Perrysburg Alliance Church she enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and photographing, especially her children. She is survived by her husband, Michael; sons, Kevin, Kyle and Kurt Wells; siblings, Edith (Rodney) Proshek, Joyce (Fritz) Goeckerman, Patricia Bunde, Edwin Kleinfelter, Thomas (Lorinda) Kleinfelter, Daniel (Kelly) Kleinfelter, Paula Kleinfelter, Ronald (Amy) Kleinfelter, Heidi (Andrew) Beier and many nieces and nephews. Velma “Bill” Lutz Smith Hoag, 94, formerly of Fremont, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at The Manor of Perrysburg. She was born November 3, 1914, in Port Clinton, Ohio, to Frederick and Martha (Wolfe) Lutz. She was a 1932 graduate of Port Clinton High School, where she was an avid athlete, and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In June 1942, she married Howard Smith, who preceded her in death in 1975. She was employed by the Selective Service Board in Fremont, and retired from federal service in 1973. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Fremont Book Club, and was very active in junior tennis at Roger Young Park. She later married Stephen Hoag of Chicago. They had a great interest in travel and spent many winters at retreats in the southern states, where she was involved in swimming, dancing, painting and tennis. She was preceded in death by her second husband in 2003. Ms. Hoag is survived by her daughters, Sandra Smith Campbell and Deborah Smith, both of Perrysburg; granddaughter, Sacha (Patrick) Crowley; greatgrandchildren, Kiera and Sean, all of Lansing, Michigan, and nephews, Jeffery Dykeman of Arizona and Gary and Greg Kreutzer of Tennessee. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Fredna (Charles) Kreutzer and Jeannette (Bob) Dykeman, and two brothers-in-law. Frank J. Szychowski, 81 of Rossford, died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born in Toledo, to Simon and Petronela (Warchol) Szychowski. He was a graduate of Rossford High School and was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. Mr. Szychowski worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company, where he retired after 41 years of service. He was a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church, where he enjoyed making pierogi for the annual festival. He also enjoyed golfing and playing pinochle. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Myerholtz of Perrysburg; son-in-law, Charles Bucko; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Allison) Bucko; Holly Myerholtz, Clint Myerholtz, Sarah Bucko; Ashley (Mike) Thomas and Marcy Myerholtz; great-grandchildren, Colin, Brenden, Joselynn and Kylynn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne, in 1993; daughter, Phyllis Bucko; son in-law, William Myerholtz; brothers, John and Edward Szychowski, and sisters, Stella Szul and Josephine Reed. Arrangements were made by the Sujkowski Funeral Home of Rossford. Patricia Ann (Appleby) Spellis, 74, of Perrysburg and formerly of Holland, Ohio, died January 11, 2009. She was born in Toledo on December 8, 1934, to James and Ruth (Lower) Appleby. She graduated from Woodward/Whitney High School, where she received her cosmetology degree. After raising her four daughters, she went to work for St. John’s Jesuit High School, where she was a dietary assistant to the priests and teachers. She was an auxiliary member of the Holland American Legion Post 646 for more than 30 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and crocheting. Ms. Spellis is survived by her daughters, Ruth Major, Reneé (Ralph) Hahn, Rhonda Agard and Robyn (Kirk) Aldrich; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, James (Mary Ellen) Appleby; sisters, Shirley (Don) Miles, Mary (Ed) Cieslikowski, Rita (Ron) Darrow, and Corrine (Kenny) Burress; special friend, Dee Logan and special uncle, Horace Appleby. Eileen Grace (Freimark) Sautter, 85, of Perrysburg died Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Born in Toledo, on July 29, 1923, to Lester and Hazel (Witty) Freimark, she was 1940 graduate of Genoa High School. She married Hugh Sautter on January 21, 1948. Mrs. Sauter was a bookkeeper with the Toledo Trust Co. and a member of Zoar Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, Hugh; daughter, Diane (David) Adkins of Martinsville, Virginia; son, Terry (Kelly) Sautter of Lake Wylie, South Carolina; grandchildren, Kristin (Sandy) Whitesides, Katie Adkins, Andrew, Brian and Michael Sautter; greatgrandson, Isaac Whitesides; brothers, Lyle (Marilyn) Freimark of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Kermit Freimark of Perrysburg, and sister, Maxine Dunn of Genoa. Frederick “Fritz” Rudolph Sr., 79, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, in his winter home in Key Colony Beach in the Florida Keys. Mr. Rudolph, one of seven children born to John and Verna Rudolph, graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in business. He married Marilyn Louise Early from Lima, Ohio, in 1954. In 1955, Mr. Rudolph, his brother Phil, and cousin Allan Libbe, founded Rudolph/Libbe Inc., a nationally ranked, Toledo based construction firm. The company has constructed a number of Toledo area landmarks, including the Ritter Planetarium and Parks Tower at the University of Toledo, the Franciscan Life Center at Lourdes College, the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, The University of Toledo Center for the Visual Arts, the expansion at The Toledo Lucas County Public Library, The Town Center at Levis Commons, the Daimler Chrysler Supplier Park, the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art, the Toledo Hospital Renaissance expansion and the Penta Career Center. In 1983, Mr. Rudolph and his co-founders acquired GEM Inc., a local electrical and mechanical contracting firm, and in 1986 started a real estate development company, Rudolph/Libbe Properties. He saw the company win seven Build Ohio awards from the Associated General Contractors of Ohio, and this year celebrate a safety milestone of two million hours worked without a lost-time incident. Mr. Rudolph was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stony Ridge, Ohio. He was a past president of the Associated General Contractors of Ohio and the Associated General Contractors of Northwest Ohio. He was a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization and the World Presidents’ Organization. In 1989, he was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young. He was recognized for contributions and leadership to the construction industry by the Construction Contractors Council in 1998. After retirement, he frequently visited job sites and the office to discuss the progress of a favorite building project. His favorite hobby was spending time with his family, especially celebrating “Turkey Tuesday” (turkey dinners from Belmont) with his grandchildren at his home in Perrysburg. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Gail (Bob) Zimmerman; and sons Bill (Laura); Fritz Jr. (Pam) and John; 12 grandchildren; brothers, John (Mary), Phil (Iris), and Kermit (Nancy), and sisters, Kathleen (Ron) Holzman, Helen (Chuck) Kurfess, and Mary Oberdick. Visitation was held January 15 and 16, at the Marsh Funeral Home, Luckey, Ohio. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge.
