Mabel Ann Spangler, 96, of Holland, passed away at her home peacefully on September 14, 2022, in the company of her loving family. She was born in Toledo, on December 4, 1925, to her parents, Fred and Leah (Walters) Marshall, where she grew up alongside her 13 siblings.

Mabel was the 13th of the 14 children in her household. She attended Toledo Public Schools before meeting and marrying her husband, Stanley C. Spangler, on March 24, 1942, which began the first of 74 years that they would spend together. With Stanley serving our country during World War II, Mabel overcame many hardships that arose on the home front which greatly impacted the woman she became. Together her husband and father-in-law built the house that she then lived in for her entire life. She worked at multiple jobs over the years, including Walford 5 and 10, Crystal Laundry, Miller Fireworks, Gross Red and White, Production Metal and finally Springfield Schools, where she eventually retired.

Mabel was a proud grandmother and found so much joy in spending time with her family. She loved the holiday seasons and was known for her homemade peanut brittle that her family waited all year for. She was also an excellent cook, with her homemade noodles being so valuable within her family that at times her grandchildren would hide them from each other. She could cook anything in the fridge and almost never needed a recipe. Aside from cooking, Mabel loved to spend her leisure time crocheting and woodworking with her husband. Together they would woodwork all year in preparation for the craft shows in the fall. Her favorite craft show was the Dollars for Scholars, which took place yearly at Springfield High School. She also enjoyed spending time at the casino, volunteering at the Strawberry Festival, at her cottage on Sandusky Bay, as well as Florida, where she and her husband would be snowbirds. She also was a part of the Maumee Eagles Club, where she got to visit and experience many new places.

The little ones in her life brought her so much joy and she will be dearly missed as a grandma. Her children will miss her daily (and nightly) phone calls, as well as her day-visits with her son. She was a woman of strength and steadiness, and was a foundation of love to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family and will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

Mabel is survived by her children, Della Glenn, Butch (Marlene) Spangler, Berry Benyo, Keith (Micki) Spangler; grandchildren, Larry Dean (Christine), Tim (Terry), Andy (Lori), Stanley (Dawn), Scott (Ashley McAninch), Betsy (Ron), Tiffany (Wes), Ryan; stepgrandchildren, Lisa, Julie (Ed), April (Rich); 26 greatgrandchildren; 12 great-greatgrandchildren, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 74 years, Stanley C. Spangler; siblings, Clara, Alma, Alice, Gertrude, Florence, Rose, Ruth, Ida, Ellen, Ed, Kenneth, Glen, Fred, and sons-in-law, Larry and Dennis.

A special thank you from the family to Dr. Gopinath Upamaka, Dr. James Bomer, Toni Baker, and caregivers Dawn, Kim, Darla and Brandy, for all of their care.

Visitation took place Friday, September 16, from 2 to 8 p.m., at the Walker Funeral Home Holland-Springfield, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland. A funeral service followed on Saturday, September 17, at 10 a.m., with burial at Springfield Township Cemetery.
