Springfield Class of 2020 travels the loop to graduate

Generations of seniors have looked forward to their high school graduation ceremony–walking down the aisle to “Pomp and Circumstance,” hearing from top members of the class, crossing the stage to receive those hard-earned diplomas in front of family and friends, and then tossing their caps into the air with fellow classmates in celebration.

That tradition took an abrupt about-face for the Class of 2020, which found itself graduating amid a pandemic, the likes of which haven’t been seen for more than a century. Seniors, who traditionally end their year with a flurry of activities including prom and after prom, quite suddenly found themselves adjusting to a new normal.

But with the help of teachers, advisors and administration, the Springfield High School Class of 2020 enjoyed prom in virtual fashion and received their diplomas during an all-day ceremony on May 30.
