Blue Devil softball honors senior standouts

On a night filled with pride and emotion, Springfield High School honored eight outstanding Blue Devil softball seniors for their leadership, grit and contributions to one of the region’s most successful programs. Congratulations to: Callee Chappetta, Kenya Crowley, Camryn Eckhart, Faith Garrett, Cam Hall, Maddie Hartzell, Hannah Schlachter and Taylor Yackee.

Coached by Rob Gwozdz (24th season, 464-150 record), alongside Michael Haas and Chelsea Haas, the 2025 squad is packed with experience, firepower and championship aspirations. Coming off a 21-8 season (11-4 NLL Cardinal), Springfield enters the year as the near-unanimous favorite to reclaim the Cardinal Division title, having moved from Division I to Division III in Ohio’s new tournament format.

The team is led by several decorated four-year varsity players, including All-Ohio catcher Cam Eckhart (DePaul commit), shortstop Cam Hall (Grand Valley State), outfielders Hannah Schlachter (Detroit Mercy) and Kenya Crowley (Lourdes), along with returning ace Callee Chappetta—whose growth on the mound is key to Springfield’s postseason hopes.

Coach Gwozdz summed it up best, “This team returns a ton of depth and experience with seven seniors in the starting lineup. We have goals to win the NLL Cardinal Division and make a deep tournament run.”

With power, poise and purpose, these seniors leave a legacy that inspires—and a season still full of promise. Keep swinging, Blue Devils.
