BOE addresses personnel matters at study session

At the May 8 study session, the Springfield board of education took action on a number of personnel matters.

The board issued one-year classified contracts to Mary Schlegel, Dorr 4-hour night custodian, effective May 2, and Philip Butler, SHS 8-hour night custodian, May 6.

A casual labor contract was awarded to Nikki Medjesky, April 23. Changes in assignment were made for Eric Bachar, from middle school intervention specialist to Holland Intermediate intervention specialist–mild to moderate, and Jason Kaczmarek, from art teacher at Crissey and Holloway elementary schools to just Crissey elementary.

They also issued a oneyear contract to Jessica Roth, speech language pathologist.

Pupil activity permits were granted for Nicholas Robertson, SHS boys basketball head coach, and James Pierce, SHS girls basketball head coach.

The school board also accepted resignations from Paulette Baz, director of federal programs, effective June 30; Jenna Kocsis, third grade at Holloway, July 1; Jennifer Thomas, SMS math June 30; Amanda Watts, 4 hour SMS food service, May 13; Kostandina Ramm. substitute bus aide, May 13, and substitute custodian, May 8.

Awarded classified substitute contracts were Kostandina Ramm, custodian, May 1, and Karen Bell, custodian, May 6.

The board approved 86 individuals as substitute teachers for 2024-25. Other Business

In other business, the school board:

•Approved a three-year agreement with Jullian and Grube, Inc. for the preparation of the district’s annual comprehensive financial report at a cost of $10,700.

•Adopted the superintendent’s list of more than 260 graduating seniors.

•Approved revisions to policies pertaining to: student assessment and academic intervention services; third grade reading guarantee; employment of substitutes; termination and resignation; employment contracts; health services; transportation; bus driver certification; transportation for non-routine trips; transportation by vehicles other than school buses, and incidental transportation of students by private vehicle.

Treasurer Ryan Lockwood said there were many language updates that needed to be addressed.

•Approved three requests to attend professional meetings.

•Entered into executive session to discuss labor negotiations, but took no action afterward.

The next school board meeting will be at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, at the administration building, 6924 Spring Valley Drive, Holland, and is open to the public.
