Cornhole tournament to benefit transplant patient set for June 18

A cornhole tournament will be held for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) in honor of Alan Flanigan.

The event is planned for Saturday, June 18, at Sylvania Moose Lodge, 6072 Main Street, Sylvania.

Mr. Flanigan, a Toledo area adult, received a heart and kidney transplant at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland.

Funds are being raised in his honor to assist with transplant-related expenses.

The tournament is open to the public.

Registration and warm-up starts at noon, and the doubleelimination partner tourney starts promptly at 1 p.m.

The cost is $40 per team, or $20 per single for those who register by June 16.

Day of the event registration will be $50 per team or $25 per single.

Blind-draw partner tournaments will begin once players have been eliminated at $20 per player.

The event is for those ages 21 and older. Cash prizes will be based on the number of participants.

There also will be door prizes, food, drinks and music.

Local volunteers are working to raise approximately $2,000 for COTA in honor of COTAforAlans Journey.com to assist with transplant-related expenses throughout his lifetime.

“The family and friends of Alan Flanigan want to encourage everyone to attend our cornhole tournament and help give Alan a second chance at life,” said Tom Fridrick. “One hundred percent of the profits from the cornhole tournament will assist with transplant-related expenses.”
