On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, an armistice, or truce, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War, then known as “the Great War.” The following year, that day was recognized as “Armistice Day.” November 11 became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day. The holiday is dedicated to American veterans of all wars.
Crissey Elementary constructed a Veterans Day wall to recognize family members who are veterans. On behalf of Crissey Elementary, we want to let all veterans know we are grateful for your service to our country. Thanks to all men and women who serve our country.
