October Musical Artist of the Month”
This year in music class, students will have an opportunity to learn about different musicians throughout the school year as part of a yearlong unit called “Artist of the Month.”
The October artist of the month is Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg. Here are some fast facts about Edvard Grieg:
•Mr. Grieg’s first music teacher was his mother.
•He was sent to study music in Germany while he was a teenager.
•He had an active career as a pianist, giving concerts all over Europe.
•Every summer, he returned to Norway to compose music.
•He is recognized as a champion of Norwegian music, art and theater.
•Playwright Henrik Ibsen asked Mr. Grieg to write music for his play “Peer Gynt.”
“In the Hall of the Mountain King” is very famous. There is a chance you have heard this music in a TV commercial, video game or movie.
I would like to thank our music teacher, Ms. Middleton, for sharing a variety of music and diverse group of musicians during her yearlong unit called “Artist of the Month.”
