Dorr students recognized with CARE awards

Several Springfield Local Schools students were among area children honored with a CARE award during the annual Claire’s Day event at the Maumee Branch Library. They are Dorr students, above, Alivia Brown with instructor Kristy DiSalle, and below, Aubriana Getzen with teacher Nichol Riston.

Held in May, the Claire’s Award for Reading Excellence recognizes students who demonstrate marked improvement in their reading skills over the course of a school year.

Claire’s Day was created by Julie and Brad Rubini as a way to honor their daughter who passed away unexpectedly in 2000 at age 10. Their daughter’s love of reading inspired the couple to establish Claire’s Day, a reading festival that brings authors and illustrators of books for children and teens to the Maumee Library each year.
