A live virtual community conversation with Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer will be held Wednesday, June 4, at 7 p.m., at Imagination Station’s Key-Bank Discovery Theater. Kimmerer is a scientist, ecologist and award-winning author.
During the conversation, Kimmerer will share lessons from her book “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants,” on how to build more respectful and sustainable relationships with nature. Participants also will hear new ways to ask questions of nature using the tools of science.
This conversation marks the culmination of 18 months of collaborative work between the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, Toledo Public Schools, Washington Local Schools, Toledo Zoo, Imagination Station, Toledo School for the Arts, Toledo Museum of Art and Metroparks Toledo.
Inspired by the work of Dr. Kimmerer, this partnership led to the creation of a new high school curriculum created by Toledo School for the Arts, titled ecology and literature. This course engages students to explore thought-provoking ecological themes through classic and contemporary texts, personal essays, poetry and research projects.
The live-streamed event is free, but ticketed for a gathered audience at Imagination Station KeyBank Discovery Theater. The entire project, including the community conversation, is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy through the Greater Toledo Community Foundation.
