Florian Insurance hosts 10th anniversary picnic for neighbors

To express their appreciation to neighbors and in celebration of their 10th anniversary at the Holloway Road location, Florian Insurance held a party on June 28 in the parking lot of their business and at Florian Park behind it. The park was established in 2014 after the family-owned insurance company donated a portion of the acreage to Springfield Township.

Tom Florian, president, explained that when the company first relocated to Holloway Road, “my father, brother and I talked about hosting an open house, but we never got around to it.” His father has since passed away and his brother retired “so now it’s just me and my daughters.” He said his daughters believed a 10-year anniversary would be the perfect time to hold an event and came up with the idea of a picnic for the neighborhood. “We always wanted to do something, so thought now is the time,” he said, and looking at the large turnout, added, “We are thrilled there are so many people here.” Mr. Florian continued, “We are a five-generation family agency. Few businesses are around that long, and we are all about family and community.”

The picnic ran for three hours with community members enjoying hot dogs, snacks, snow cones by Smyles Icy Treats and drinks along with activities such as face painting and games. A raffle was held with the winners receiving gift cards. They are Kristie Dauer, $25 Chitter Chatter; Jeffrey Reusch, $25 Rudy’s; Tami Jared, $50 Cheers, and Joe Corgman, $50 Firepit Grille. They also held a children’s drawing contest in which youngsters were asked “What does the word insurance mean?” and drew a picture as part of their response The winner was Cole Westen, 9, of Hunters Run. His response was, “They give you money after a disaster like if your house gets destroyed,” and he drew a picture of a home burned to the ground.
