Historical Society museum celebrates Back to School

With students back in school, the Holland-Springfield- Spencer Historical Society Museum is featuring Springfield Schools memorabilia at its exhibit area to the right of the main entry.

As part of the exhibit, Springfield Schools officials will be at the museum on Thursdays, September 4 and 11, during museum hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Area residents are invited to visit with district administrators, view items on display and share memories of their time at Springfield Schools.

Located at 7154 Front Street, Holland, the museum is free and open to the public on three Thursdays each month and on the third Saturday of the month through early December.

Several other special events are on tap for the remainder of this year.

“On Saturday, October 18, we will have on exhibit items from the Springfield Township Fire Department in the museum along with information on the department’s history,” said Jane Welch, museum director.

Held in conjunction with fire prevention month, the event will feature vintage fire trucks.

In addition, the museum’s neighbor, Fire Nation, will hold a “fire sale” that’s sure to be hot.

October activities continue on Friday, October 31, when the museum opens for Halloween trick or treat from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Is the museum haunted? Stop by on Halloween and see if you find any ghosts from the past,” the director said.

The last event of the season, a Christmas open house, will take place Saturday, December 6, with a time yet to be determined.

With help from volunteers, the museum will be decorated for the holidays, and refreshments will be served. Following the open house, the museum will close for the winter.

The director thanks those who support the museum.

“These exhibits are made possible by museum members, the Village of Holland and Springfield Township.”
