The Holland-Springfield-Spencer Historical Society Museum will close out 2025 with a holiday open house on Saturday, December 6. Museum hours for this special event will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m.
Visitors can explore the museum displays amid sparkling holiday lights with Christmas trees from different time periods featured in each room. The rooms are being decorated with help from Springfield Schools student volunteers.
Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public with freewill donations accepted.
One tree will be adorned with ornaments made by students at Holland Intermediate School. Prizes will be awarded to the top three from each class on December 6.
“The tree in the military room, along with refreshments, were donated by Scott Stigall of State Farm, Holland.
The board and I thank Mr. Stigall for his generous support,” said Director Jane Maiolo.
The museum is still accepting donations or loans of Christmas items such as Nativities, old toys, trains or vintage items to be featured in the display cases at the entry.
With Veterans Day on November 11, visitors are encouraged to visit and explore the military room.
Added to the exhibit are military photos and documents from June 1944 from a sailor aboard the USS Alabama.
For the remainder of the year, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Thursdays, November 20, and December 4 and 11. It also will be open Saturday, November 15 and December 20.
“We will be closed for Thanksgiving, November, 27, Christmas, December 25 and New Year’s Day, January 1,” the director said.
