Principal’s Message:
Outside of school, Valentine’s Day had never been a big deal for me. Well, that sure changed this year, thanks to the efforts of Holland Elementary School students who have provided me with a whole new level of enjoyment watching the fun that comes from seeing students make an extra effort to show kindness to one another and telling peers and teachers how special we are to one another.
Just a reminder that following Presidents Day (school is closed on February 21) students will not return to school until Thursday, February 24, when we begin the third trimester. While students are not in class, teachers and staff will work hard finishing up important second trimester work, and also participating in training and educational activities.

2022-23 Springfield Jumpstart
We would like to share information about the start of school in the fall of 2022. Springfield Local Schools are excited to begin a new tradition entitled, Springfield Jumpstart, with the goal of providing a more personal touch to start the school year. In lieu of a separate open house, each school will provide an opportunity for kindergarten through fifth grade homeroom teachers to meet with families individually and assess students during 45-minute appointments over a four-day period. This will give families and students a special time to get to know teachers, see the classroom, drop off supplies, tour the building and take care of any start-of-school housekeeping issues like updating contact information, paying fees, etc.
There will be no classes for any kindergarten through fifth grade student(s) on these dates: August 24 to 29; only pre-scheduled appointments with teachers. Families of students entering first through fifth grades will receive an email with a link to make an appointment with their students’ teachers in May 2022.

Announcing Summer Spark
Springfield Local Schools is excited to kick off a new summer program entitled, Summer Spark, for students entering kindergarten through eighth grades.
The program will provide students with access to books, learning stations and outreach activities. We are partnering with several community organizations in an effort to connect students and families to experiences beyond the classroom walls. Weekly themes will be incorporated into the learning stations and outreach activities. Additionally, students will earn points for participating in the program and reading books at home. A district van will be located outside of our elementary buildings and middle school for approximately two hours, Monday through Friday, starting Monday, June 6. The last scheduled visit will be held on August 5. The district van will not host the program during the week of July 4 to 8. Families may sign up using the registration link that will be available in April 2022.
Holland Parent Council
Please consider attending Holland Parent Council meetings this year. They have already planned for some terrific events, and they are hoping to be able to do much more later in the year.
Meetings are every third Tuesday, with the exception of a couple meetings.
All meetings are at 6:30 p.m., in the cafeteria. The upcoming schedule is: March 15, April 12 and May 10.
Elementary Reconfiguration
As you know, Holland will be reconfigured into a fourth and fifth grade building for the 2022-23 school year.
