After a one-year hiatus–a result of the COVID-19 pandemic–the automotive technology programs at Penta Career Center hosted their 10th Cruise-In car show September 27 at the Perrysburg Township campus.
A beautiful, warm fall day brought out car buffs eager to check out the 407 classic and vintage vehicles on display including cars, trucks and motorcycles. Vehicle owners were admitted free with a donation of nonperishable food items for the career center’s food pantry.
In addition to cars, the cruise-in featured music, food and door prizes such as car care kits, gift certificates and products from several Penta programs.
Tours of the automotive technology and auto collision programs were offered. In addition, students who are members of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America coordinated a “Kids Garage” with activities for younger visitors.
The cruise-in was organized by the automotive technology programs and SkillsUSA, a leadership organization for career-technical education students.
Awards were presented in several categories. Receiving Best Motorcycle recognition for his 1998 Harley Davidson Super Glide was David Smith of Toledo.
The alumni award went to Denny Wise of Toledo, a 1972 alumnus of Penta’s drafting program, for his 1966 Oldsmobile 442.
Taking home the superintendent’s award were Bob and Jackie Peinert of Tontogany for their 1930 Ford Model A station wagon.
Superintendent Ed Ewers said the students did an excellent job organizing the event and commended them for collecting a trailer full of nonperishable food items and personal hygiene products.
“Thank you to all who attended our cruise-in,” he said. “We had a great turnout with many cool vehicles that participated for the first time.”
Next year’s show is planned for Wednesday, September 28 from 5 to 8 p.m.
