The local schools running series officially launched its opening day at Homecoming Park, bringing together students, families and community partners for an evening of fitness and fun.
Thanks to a collaboration between Springfield Township and Dave’s Running Shop, children from kindergarten through sixth grade hit the trails for a free, family- friendly race experience.
This event not only showcased the energy of our young runners, but also highlighted the power of community partnerships. Springfield Township has worked diligently in recent years to create safe and accessible trails, paving the way for opportunities like this one.
Special thanks to Dave’s Performance Footgear Running Shop, the Springfield Township Trustees and Mike Hampton, Springfield Township administrator, for helping make this event possible. Together, they continue to bridge the gap between schools, families and the greater Toledo community.
Springfield’s own Victor Brown, a second grader at Dorr Elementary, crossed the finish line in first place in the kindergarten to second grade boys race. A special moment also was captured with Victor and his family, including his mother, Angelica Brown, as they celebrated the win.
Also earning top honors was Saintana Green from Springfield Middle School, who finished first in the fifth to sixth grade boys group.
The running series will continue throughout the season, with the next race scheduled for Tuesday, September 30. We hope to see even more families join in the fun.
