Lucas SWCD to host pond clinic September 23 at Oak Openings

The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) is hosting the fall pond clinic on Tuesday, September 23, at 5 p.m., inside the Buehner Center at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark, 5402 Wilkins Road, Whitehouse. This free event is for current and future pond owners or developers to learn about best management practices for creating/ maintaining habitat, fish stocking, weed control and other aspects of maintenance to increase the overall quality and, in turn, enjoyment of the pond.

This year’s guest speaker is Eugene Braig, director of Aquatic Ecosystems for Ohio State University Extension. His focus will be on aquatic vegetation and invasive species management but he can speak to many aspects of pond management.

There also will be a short walk following the presentation around Mallard Lake to talk about any observations and any questions.

Pre-registration is appreciated and can be done by visiting LucasSWCD.org/ pond-clinic or calling 419893-1966.
