The fall season is approaching and we are getting geared up to have some fall activities. MacQueen Orchards’ Apple Butter Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Apple butter will be bubbling in the copper kettle over an open fire. Many pints of apple butter will be cooked and sold. While the art of apple butter making will be demonstrated, the area surrounding will come to life with many activities.
There will be barbecue ribs by Deets, gyros by Opa’s, french fries, Philly sandwiches, hamburgs, hot dogs, Mexican dishes by Al Primo Antonio, loaded chicken, funnel cakes, homemade fudge and roasted almonds. Lemon shakes will be available with cider slushies. The bakery will be in full swing with pies, breads, donuts, sweet rolls, apple fritters and caramel apples.
Martha’s Gifts in the old homestead house, which was originally the late Martha and Hugh MacQueen’s home, will be open. The boutique is filled with many items such as handbags, jewelry, soaps, ladies tops, kitchenware and more.
The Country Gift Barn is MacQueen’s year round Christmas shop, filled with items for walls, trees or just decorating for the holidays.
Visitors will have the opportunity to pick their own apples and pumpkins for a nominal fee. MacQueen’s will supply the half bushel bags. There is a half bushel minimum to enter orchard on a pay-first basis.
Free entertainment will be provided each day. Featured on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be the Chris Brown Band, with Whitehead/Mac band from 2 to 6 p.m.; and on Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Benny Roschmann, D.J.; and Pure Country Band from 2 to 6 p.m.
There will be kiddie rides, pony rides, barrel train rides, petting zoo, face painting and more.
The public is invited to enjoy a day with the family at MacQueen’s Festival put on by the entire MacQueen family.
