June of 1989 was the first full month of operation for Nature’s Nursery Wildlife Rescue. What started as a small hobby-operation 35 years ago on a residential property, has grown into a multifaceted organization that now serves more than 18 counties and cares for 3,500 animals or more every year.
It has grown steadily to serve the needs of wildlife in the local community, and an anniversary celebration is underway.
Since its beginning, the organization has been dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife, providing a service to the community and the environment along with educational classes and wildlife conservation programs. To commemorate this milestone, it will launch a month-long goal of raising $35,000 for its 35th year.
“During the first year of operations in 1989, Nature’s Nursery admitted 159 animals” said Allison Aey, executive director. “159 animals can now be admitted during a long weekend. We have grown substantially with the support of the community, and we have so much work to still do for wildlife conservation and education.”
Throughout June, the center will run a digital campaign across social media platforms and enewsletters, sharing stories of their history and successes and encouraging donations to help reach their goal.
All funds received will be used for wildlife care costs and caging upgrades.
“Our 35th anniversary is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers and supporters,” said Ms. Aey.
“Over the last 35 years we have cared for over 75,000 animals and we could not have done it without the support of the community.”
