Nature’s Nursery to host a brunch for the babies on May 13

Baby animal season is underway at Nature’s Nursery. For this special time of year, the organization is teaming up with Barr’s Public House and Driven Fitness Studio to host a brunch fund-raiser at, 3355 Briarfield Boulevard, on Saturday, May 13, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Each year, Nature’s Nursery Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center admits thousands of orphaned wild baby animals including bunnies, squirrels, opossums, birds, groundhogs and more. These animals are all cared for by staff and volunteers until they are old enough to be released back into the wild. The animals may be tiny, but their needs are big. “Each orphaned animal has different needs by species. The cost to care for each one can range from $60 to over $1,000 from admission to release,” said Allison Aey, Nature’s Nursery executive director.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling Barr’s Public House at 419866-8466. A full brunch menu will be offered for adults and kids along with drink specials, table crafts, raffles, an animal education table and more. After dining, guests can take a short walk over to Driven Fitness Studio to visit with a few of the organization’s animal education ambassadors.

Guests are encouraged to bring a gift from the “baby registry” including jars of baby food, wet and dry cat food, receiving blankets, plain Pedialyte, cage bedding and cleaning supplies.

“In addition to the basic supply needs, the baby animals all require a very specialized and expensive wildlife formula. This fund-raiser will help us to raise money for the formula and other needs for our tiniest wildlife guests at the center,” said Ms. Aey.

Those unable to attend the event can support the animals through donations at naturesnursery.
