On Wednesday, October 29, Northwest Ohio educators will welcome Rachel Coyle, policy director for the nonpartisan Honesty for Ohio Education, for an important discussion on how to better advocate for public education.
According to Marty Perlaky, president of Springfield Local Schools’ teachers’ union, “Politicians have demonized public education with the intention of delegitimizing and defunding our public schools. Ohio’s students deserve better. Colleagues from Springfield, Sylvania and Washington Local, as well as representatives from the Ohio Education Association and Northwestern Ohio Education Association, will be attending to explore how to better advocate for an honest and strong public education system that serves every child and their individual needs, leaving political culture wars at the door.”
Members of the general public are invited to attend the discussion and become engaged in strategies that prioritize Ohio’s students and communities. The meeting will be held in the Whitmer High School Science Lecture Hall, on the south end of the high school building. The school is at 5601 Clegg Drive, Toledo.
The schedule includes a presentation from 5 to 6 p.m., question and answer session from 6 to 6:30 p.m., and political action from 7 to 7:30 p.m.
Every student in Ohio deserves the freedom to learn and grow in a welcoming and supportive environment regardless of their background or family income.
