The Toledo post of the Ohio Highway Patrol continues to investigate a hazardous material spill that occurred June 5 on Airport Highway/ State Route 2 at McCord Road.
A semi-truck, operated by John Beach, 29, of Fayette, Ohio, was transporting used motor oil, when the load became unsecured, resulting in 275 gallons of motor oil spilling onto the road’s westbound lanes. Airport Highway was closed for hours while crews worked to mitigate the hazardous material from the roadway.
The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Lucas County sheriff’s office, Holland Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency and Springfield Township Fire and EMS.
