Penta BOE approves roof work contract

At the April 5 meeting, the Penta Career Center board of education awarded a contract to Garland/Design Building Solutions for $319,398.

Under the cooperative purchasing agreement, Garland/ DBS will procure the products and services to be provided for roofing work on the building.

Treasurer Carrie Herringshaw explained the process, “It is through joint purchasing where another public entity does the bidding and other entities can take advantage of the bidding process. Garland was awarded the bid through the joint purchasing process.

This is the first phase of the project and will entail replacement of the roof in the east wing.

“The work will be done this summer,” she added.

Perfect Audit

Mrs. Herringshaw received the Auditor of State’s perfect audit award from Lori Brodie, northwest regional liaison to the Ohio auditor’s office. The treasurer’s office has been the recipient of the award on multiple occasions, most recently in April 2022.

The auditors examine bank reconciliations, receipts, disbursements, bank account balances, cash receipts, income tax receipts, payroll records and refunds.

They also look at expenditures for federal grants and make sure that funds are spent in accordance with federal guidelines. They review internal controls and verify that accounting practices follow prescribed government accounting standards.

In addition, they review the annual financial statements and provide an opinion as to whether those statements are materially correct and fairly represent the financial condition of the school district.

The auditors found “clean and accurate” record-keeping. Other Business In other business, the school board:

•Accepted the retirement resignation of Catherine Manol, part-time adult education ASPIRE instructor, effective April 29.

They also accepted Karena Cook’s resignation as VOSE coordinator as of June 30, and hired her as assistant supervisor starting with the 2023-24 school year.

•Approved the employment of Bradley Rhegness and Kathryn Waltermeyer, instructional aides.

•Employed Jillian Crowe, sophomore exploratory/business instructor, one-year limited contract for 2023-24; Bradley Roberts academic instructor, one-year limited contract for 2023-24, and Priscilla Davis and Michelle Wright, adult education ASPIRE instructors, part time, $25 per hour, through June 30.

•Approved 59 requests to attend professional meetings including summer conferences and competitions.

The next board of education meeting will be at 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 10 in the board meeting room at the career center, 9301 Buck Road, Perrysburg Township, and is open to the public.
