Each spring, thousands of plastic greenhouse trays and planters are left over after planting season, but these items are not accepted in curbside recycling. To help prevent these plastics from ending up in the landfill, Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful has launched a special greenhouse container recycling initiative, running through June 6.
Residents are encouraged to bring their clean, empty plastic trays and planters (no dirt and soil) to one of four participating drop-off locations:
•Bench Farms, 9152 Jerusalem Road, Curtice
•Black Diamond Toledo, 1964 Tremainsville Road
•Black Diamond Waterville, 7714 Dutch Road
•Lois Keil and Sons – 9022 Central Avenue, Sylvania
Drop-offs can be made during each business’s regular operating hours.
“This is a great opportunity to keep these plastics out of the landfill and give them a chance at a second life,” said Adam Cassi, executive director of Keep Toledo/Lucas County Beautiful. “We’re grateful to the local greenhouses who are stepping up as collection partners and making this as easy as possible for the community.”
The collected materials will be properly recycled through a specialized recycling partner, helping to reduce waste and promote sustainability across the region.
