The Grand Rapids “Rhythm on the River” Arts Series will continue on Sunday, July 16, at 4 p.m. The programs are held in the Wright Pavilion on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street.
The performing band for this installment is EZ Pickenz, a group consisting of guitarist and Toledo native Matt Meeker, Washington import, guitarist and bassist Mark Elder, who also serves as the songwriter and audio engineer. Lyle Diefenthaler, also a Toledo native, recently joined the band, providing percussion and bringing a new three-part harmony to many of their performances.
The group covers songs from the late sixties through the early eighties, with hits from bands and groups like Eagles, Grateful Dead, the Moody Blues, Van Morrisson, Garth Brooks and Jimmy Buffett among others.
The concert is free, and patrons are asked to bring blankets or chairs to enjoy the music alongside the Maumee River. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved into the Old Fire Station on Front Street.
