This July, Sauder Village is hosting Summer at the Village, a three-week celebration offering unique activities each week, offering a wide range of educational topics and themes regarding rural American history.
“Summer at the Village reflects various summer activities that folks in the 19th and early 20th century would have participated in,” said Matthew Walls, village education manager. The first week is from July 10 to 13, called cow week. Fittingly, the week will focus on the significant role that cattle played in forging early America, with exhibitions of various dairy products and processes.
There will also be a best moo competition, where participants will test the strength of their vocal cords by performing the best moo possible.
A name the calf contest also will be held throughout the three weeks, with participants given the opportunity to choose between the names Felix, Jeremiah or Taft to dub a newly born male calf.
The next week will be work and play week from July 17 to 20, where guests can experience the balance of labor and leisure in early American homes, and the program will wrap up with Nature Week from July 24 to 26, complete with a grand finale on Saturday, July 27.
The finale will combine each week’s themes and activities for a nonstop day of fun and education.
The Ohio Wheelmen will be onsite for their biennial meeting, along with their antique bicycles.
