Senior softball players recognized

Springfield High School recognized senior members of the softball team at a recent game.

Head Coach Rob Gwozdz welcomed parents and visitors to Senior Day where four Blue Devil softball players were lauded for their accomplishments. They are Madison Darrah, Taylee Long, Sydney Schwieterman and Paiten Turner.

Madison Darrah

The daughter of Kevin and Helen Darrah, Madison has played varsity softball for four years while serving as captain for one year. She also participated in varsity volleyball for three years and served as the team captain one year.

Madison is involved in Students in Action, HOSA Future Healthcare Professionals, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a Penta student ambassador.

Her favorite memory is winning districts, and making two diving catches against Anthony Wayne.

Her biggest fans are her family for the endless love and support they provide. After graduation, she plans to attend Bethel University to play softball and study nursing.

Taylee Long

Taylee is the daughter of Craig and Bobbilyn Long. In addition to softball, she played volleyball for several years. Her favorite memory is being the team’s chiropractor, even for Coach Rob and Coach Kimmy.

She will never forget hitting the griddy with Coach Rob after a walk off homer.

Her biggest supporters are her parents, family and friends. She plans to attend the University of Toledo this fall.

Sydney Schwieterman

The daughter of James and Nicole Schwieterman, Sydney not only plays softball, but participated in swim for one year and volleyball for four years. She was the captain of the volleyball team for half of those years. She is involved in Students in Action, National Honor Society, Peace Project, the mentor program and DevilsasOne.

Her favorite memory is winning back-to-back NLL titles. Her biggest supporters are her parents, brother and teammates.

Upon graduation, Sydney plans to attend Xavier University with a major in biomedical sciences and a minor in Spanish.

Paiten Turner

PJ is the daughter of Shawn and Tracy Turner. She is involved in National Honor Society.

Her favorite memory is playing against Anthony Wayne with her sister during her freshman season and defeating them 1-0.

Her biggest supporters are her parents, grandparents and sister. After graduating, she plans to attend UT to major in nursing.

“Good luck on your future endeavors, ladies,” Coach Gwozdz said.
