Share the Shine program seeks community support to help students

Share the Shine (StS) is making an impact in Springfield Schools, empowering youth from grades 4 to 12 with the tools they need to cope with life’s challenges, build positive mental health and foster a stronger community. By teaching students to handle stress and trauma, combat fear, and volunteer selflessly, StS is creating ripples of positivity that extend far beyond the classroom.

This holiday season, students participating in StS are taking their lessons to heart by volunteering throughout the community. From wrapping gifts for families in need to serving at local food pantries, these young individuals are redefining what it means to give back.

StS has announced a new partnership with jewelry retailers Claire’s and Icing. These companies have donated items for distribution at StS meetings, bringing joy to the youth and reinforcing the importance of community-focused business practices.

In addition to these efforts, StS has been distributing “coping kits” to youth in need. The kits are filled with valuable tools and resources to help navigate stressful environments, whether they face homelessness, domestic violence or anxiety. More than 120 kits have been distributed, and the demand continues to grow.

With a $1,000 donation from the Countertop Shop, StS is one step closer to its goal, but more support is needed to reach every child in need. StS would like to reach not only all the Springfield area students, but expand to schools outside the district, but funds are needed.

“My biggest fear is what some of these kids go home to,” says Andrea Smith, executive director of StS. “We’re working with students living in cars, those without parents and those facing unimaginable stress. The coping kits provide a small piece of peace in a chaotic world, and we want to make sure every child who needs one has access.”

StS invites the community and neighboring areas to support its cause and to ensure that every child has the resources to thrive.

Contributions toward kits or support for its mission of spreading hope, love, unity and positive mental health are greatly appreciated.

“We’re building stronger communities by empowering individuals, and it all starts with our youth,” said Smith.
