SHS announces first trimester recipients of the Ev Harris Award for outstanding service

Since 2009, Youth Jefferson Awards have recognized students throughout the United States. In #springfield strong, this recognition is not won nor is the selection a competition. In service, the winners should be both those who receive the gift of time, talent and treasure, and those who so generously share those same gifts.

In 2022, in honor of a longtime servant leader, Springfield High School renamed the effort to recognize deserving candidates the Ev Harris Award for Outstanding Community Service. Recently, five students learned that their legacies have been added to the 120 others who have placed a high value on stepping away from the sidelines to accept leadership opportunities through their service. They are there when asked to assist, offer to help when they see a need, and care for neighbors whose circumstances and needs often overwhelm their lives.

Each of the recipients has had tremendous role models–their families, teachers, coaches/mentors and even friends whose examples have inspired them into action. Morgan Amick, Corrie Brown, Kacie Chandler, Hannah Guercio and Corinne Shull are most deserving, and this is simply the beginning of the legacies they will leave at Springfield High School and beyond. The community is better because of them–we all are.
