Springfield High School students in Mrs. Julia Morrin’s class explored the future of engineering during a visit to TekniPlex’s Global Innovation Center in Holland. The field trip offered students a hands-on look into advanced materials science and engineering, showcasing how everyday products are designed, tested and brought to market. With access to cutting- edge technology and insights from industry experts, students experienced firsthand the innovation that drives modern manufacturing and packaging.
On April 11, more than 20 students and educators from SHS, led by Morrin, participated in an engineering field trip to the center. TekniPlex is a globally integrated materials science company specializing in innovative solutions for the healthcare, food and beverage, personal care and household product sectors. Headquartered in Wayne, Pennsylvania, the company operates more than 50 facilities worldwide and employs approximately 7,000 individuals across 12 countries.
During the visit, students engaged with experts from various scientific and engineering disciplines, gaining insights into the design, manufacturing and testing processes of everyday materials. The facility, a cornerstone in the Toledo suburb for more than a decade, features stateof- the-art laboratories, rapid prototyping capabilities and collaborative spaces dedicated to advancing materials science research and development.
This immersive experience provided students with a comprehensive understanding of how materials are innovatively developed to meet the evolving needs of modern industries.
