Springfield BOE approves personnel decisions

Retirements and resignations were among the top items addressed by the Springfield school board at the May 11 meeting.

The meeting began with transportation director Ron Smith addressing the board. He expressed his appreciation for their support. Mr. Smith is retiring on June 3.

In addition to Mr. Smith, the board accepted the retirement of Cheri Copeland-Shull, Dorr elementary principal, effective July 1.

They accepted resignations for Rebecca Freman, May 28; Brett Mueller, Springfield Digital Academy intervention specialist, August 1, and Shirley Ingram, Crissey elementary night custodian, August 1.

Several changes in assignment were approved for Julie Ingham from fifth grade at Dorr to third grade at Holloway; Brandy Klena from intervention specialist at Holland to Dorr; Tina Buchop from 6.25 hours middle school food service to 8 hours food service manager; Sharon Turner from 3 hours SHS food service to SMS food service, and Danielle Wulf from 4 hour SMS food service with additional cleaning duties to 4 hour SMS food service.

A one-year contract was awarded to Carole Davies, data lead and instructional coach, and Jenna Moden received a two-year contract as elementary assistant principal.

The board granted a casual labor contract to Scott Brooker, retroactive to March 15 and awarded a personal service contract to Amy Gelsone, choir accompanist, effective May 10.

Three employees were granted stipends. They are Eric Bachar, Leah Schwan and Hallie Wright-Comes, summer program teachers.

In addition, Emily Turner was hired as a substitute teacher.

Other Business

In other business, the board of education:

•Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Association of Public Schools Employees Local 475 as it pertains to the use of leave in the remaining month of school.

•Accepted a list of 275 seniors who graduate on May 21.

•Commended the high school band for earning a superior rating at state competitions.

•Approved two requests to attend professional development meetings.

The next school board meeting will be at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, at the administration building, 6900 Hall Street, Holland, and is open to the public.
