Springfield High School News

Sorry to mark the unofficial end of summer but here it is, we are a week away from the first day of school.

As usual, I am very excited to see all of the kids and, of course, meet our new ones. I will be sending out a few reminders over the next week with updates and information, so keep checking your email.

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year.

School Counselor Format This upcoming year, SHS will continue with the grade level format for our counselors. Our freshman counselor will be Jasmine Fletcher and will work with the transition to high school and all freshman students. Our remaining counselors will be following a grade level so that the focus of their attention is only on the current needs of that grade; i.e., sophomores choosing career tech, juniors taking the ACT, seniors filling out college applications, etc. The focus, then, of the counselor is that particular class and what is going on for that group. Following are the counseling assignments for the upcoming school year: Class of 2025, Ron Liwo; Class of 2026, Christine Jones; Class of 2027, Latrice McCarver, and freshman counselor, Jasmin Fletcher.

Class Schedules

Each year the counselors work on balancing the schedule based on the number of students and class sections needed. We continue to work on schedules and adjust with changes. Class schedules were released to the student Powerschool accounts on August 7. We will continue to balance courses over the coming weeks; therefore schedules are subject to change. Student requested schedule changes will not be honored unless the need is a graduation requirement. Schedules may continue to change through the start of school.

Powerschool Login Questions

Due to some Powerschool updates, all students will need to go through the “forgot password” step to access their account. Powerschool should now be available.

Hello High School Move in Days:

We continue to allow students opportunities to “move in” to their high school locker and take care of necessary fees. During the “Hello High School Days,” come in and pay fees, buy parking passes or drop off items to your locker on August 12 and 13.

Freshman Orientation Day August 16 (Freshman and new students) Our first day of school for ninth grade and new students will be Friday, August 16. Freshman and new students will have the opportunity to meet with mentors and share activities to introduce everyone to our high school. Group information will be sent in the mail. If you did not receive a group letter, your group information will be provided the morning of the 16th.

Senior Kick off Day August 16 (Seniors)

Our Seniors will join the ninth grade students for a half-day session to kick off their senior year. Seniors will meet with counselors and take care of some of their senior year activities, including common app, senior course audit, honors diploma app and many others. Agenda for the day will be shared to student emails near the day of the event.

Lockers

Lockers will be issued to every student with a schedule in the building. Students must use a school issued lock that is carried over from middle school or purchased from Mrs. Ruiz in student services. Students may carry a drawstring bag to their class, but large bookbags and coats should be secured in their locker. During state issued exams, phones, smart watches and other electronic devices should be left at home or stored locked in a locker to follow the testing mandates.
