Springfield High School News

A December tradition at Springfield High School long ago became the JROTC Breakfast with Santa. Over the years, I’ve seen many different crowds, different things and, of course, lots of fun and this year was no exception. Yes, the tradition of pancakes and sausage and the chance to see Santa continued, but it’s always nice to see the mix of old faces and new. For a guy like me who’s been around for a few years, it is so nice to see parents who had students graduate five, seven, 10 years ago coming back to support our Santa’s Breakfast. And yes, like me, bringing out their grandchildren to the great event. This year I saw several of those faces from graduations past and, of course, met so many, many new families that I hope to see for several more years to come.

The mainstay of the event, of course, is Santa, but for me it is the high school kids and the tradition. Each year there are several celebrity servers, Mrs. Steinmiller, Mrs. Miley, Mr. Geha all came out along with township trustees, Mr. Glen and Mrs. Geiger, but the belle of the ball had to be the Springfield Fire Department. No one can flip pancakes like they can. This was the first that I know of for the fire department and I hope they are now part of the tradition.

You have to know that so many people go into making this a great event. The cadre and the cadets, of course, but behind the scenes, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Jackson and the other JROTC parents really made the whole thing run. They even had a former booster officer cooking up the pancakes. Everyone put in a lot of time and they did a great job.

Thank you to all who worked to put on this great event and all who came to partake. Whether this was your first time or probably 20 something for me, everyone had a great time. For all who came out this year, the fun, the camaraderie and the tradition was so greatly enjoyed.
