Blue Devils Update
It’s finally here. I can officially start talking about the start of school. Don’t get me wrong, summers are great, but the start of school is just so exciting. All of the people you have not seen, the athletics and band nights are coming back around, and before you know it, our fall play will be in full swing. For me, it has always been a good time of the year and a fresh start. I hope it is the same for you.
Don’t forget, the official start time at the high school has moved to 8 a.m.
The daily class schedule is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the building opening to students at 7:15. Following are a few more updates, with more specifics being sent in the weeks to come.
Please visit the district website for more information at springfield-schools. org/.
What follows are a variety of topics and categories to get you started: Powerschool Login Questions If you need your password information, contact the school counselors’ office, Betsy Hicks, at 419-867-5632.

Hello High School Move in Days This year we are looking to allow students opportunities to “move in” to their high school locker and take care of necessary fees. This will replace schedule pick up, as the schedules and so many other aspects of the old schedule pick up are now done online.
During the “Hello High School Days,” come in and pay fees, buy parking passes or drop off items to your locker during the four-day window of August 15, 16, 17 and 18.
Students and parents will be able to come into the building any time between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Freshman Orientation Day August 24 for Freshman and New Students Only Our first day of school for ninth grade and new students will be Wednesday, August 24. Freshmen and new students will have the opportunity to meet with mentors and share activities to introduce everyone to our high school. Group information will be sent in the mail. If you did not receive a group letter, your group information will be provided the morning of the 24th. On the 24th, they will be given multiple tours to get to know their way around the high school and see the many programs we have to offer.
First Day of School for all Students (9-12)
Thursday, August 25, will be the first day of school for all high school students.
Lockers
Lockers will be issued to every student with a schedule in the building. Students must use a school issued lock that is carried over from middle school or purchased from Mrs. Welch in student services. Students may carry drawstring bags to their classes, but large bookbags and coats should be secured in their lockers. During state issued exams, phones, smart watches and other electronic devices should be left at home or stored locked in a locker to follow the testing mandates.
Springfield High School Open House
Springfield High School’s open house will be on Wednesday, September 7, 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendars. Come in and meet the fall trimester teachers and get to know them.
Class Schedules
Each year our counselors work on balancing the schedule based on the number of students and class sections needed.
We continue to work on schedules and adjust with changes. Any schedule currently viewable online is not correct. Class schedules will be released to the student Powerschool accounts on Monday, August 15. We will continue to balance courses over the coming weeks; therefore schedules are subject to change.
Student requested schedule changes will not be honored unless the need is a graduation requirement. Schedules may continue to change through the start of school.
Online Forms
Be sure to go into your Powerschool account and update all forms for this school year. Free and Reduced Lunch Forms During the last school year, children and families benefited from no-cost school meals for all students, made possible by special permission from the United States Department of Agriculture. Unfortunately, these permissions have expired. Springfield Local Schools and the Ohio Department of Education cannot extend the permissions for no-cost meals for all students. School meals will still be available to all students; however, they will not be free to all students.
Households may apply for free or reduced-price meal benefits.
Applications are available at all buildings, school website, and you can complete an online application on EZMeal app on the school website as was done before the pandemic.
Eligibility for free and reduced- price lunch is based on federal income guidelines or participation in other programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Ohio Works First.
For additional information concerning the National School Lunch Program, see the U.S. Department of Agriculture school lunch question and answer webpage.
For the 2022-23 school year, the price of reduced and paid lunches will be as follows:
•Breakfast, kindergarten through fifth grade, $1.50, and sixth through 12th grade, $1.75.
•Lunch, kindergarten through fifth grade, $3.25, and sixth through 12th grade, $3.50.
For reduced-price students, all grades, breakfast will be reduced 30 cents and lunch 40 cents.
For questions or additional information, contact Jamie Filipiak at 419-867-5645 or JamieFilipiak@springfield-schools.org.
“Fee Waiver Application and Free or Reduced-Price School Meal Application” is still used for the consideration of the waiving of fees/assessments for Springfield Local Schools, so those who may qualify should submit this application for the purpose of the waiver of fees for the 2022-23 school year.
For the EZMealapp, go to secure.ezmealapp.com/ ApplicationScreen.aspx.
All parents/guardians will need their child(ren) student ID# to complete the online application.
