Springfield High School News

There are always so many cool things to be proud of at Springfield. This past weekend, another one of those cool things happened that I would love to share with you all. About four years ago, the Northern Lakes League (NLL) cheerleading coaches got together to organize an NLL cheerleading competition. After they developed the format and scoring guidelines, the next big hurdle was finding a location. Thanks to our cheerleading Coach Megan Cantu and Athletic Director Andrew Screptock, Springfield was secured as the host facility and they have taken this challenge on and done an amazing job.

From the cheer mats to the judges’ tables and from lining up workers to securing a DJ, the event is so great for kids. The cheerleaders from each of the NLL schools come in and compete with their own routine and then, quite literally, cheer for each other, making it an allaround great event. This year, though, was special in that the Springfield High School Blue Devils won their first NLL cheerleading title in the Cardinal Division. Our routine was flawless, according to my standards, and apparently the judges liked it, too.

If you have never been to a cheerleading competition, next year do yourself a favor and come out and watch as it is high energy, high athleticism and it showcases allaround great sportsmanship. To end, congratulations to the Cheer Devils, you were spectacular and I am so proud.
