Springfield Middle School News

On Friday, March 15, students from Springfield Middle School traveled to the University of Toledo to participate in the Women in Engineering event hosted by the university. Thirteen students were greeted at the front door by Dr. Maria Coleman, the chair of the UT Chemical Engineering Department, who also is a Springfield parent.

As the day progressed, students participated in unique challenges while learning about the many disciplines contained within the world of engineering. Specifically, they explored clean water filtration, air power and vehicle design. The day concluded with a luncheon and panel discussion with women engineers, who fielded questions from the students about all aspects of their chosen careers.

As they left the building, the students were approached by former SMS student and engineering intern, Natalie Zuccarell, who recognized her former teacher and group chaperone, Mr. Ransford. SLS is proud to support our students as they prepare to design and build the future.

We just introduced a group of them to the University of Toledo. They would be lucky to have them on their campus.
