October is National Bullying Prevention Month: Springfield Middle School’s Commitment to “Stick Together” Against Bullying Springfield Middle School’s sixth graders are embracing an important mission this month—to “stick together” and foster a safer, kinder community. Led by school counselor Kelsey DePompei, students took part in engaging lessons designed to deepen their understanding of bullying, its harmful effects and the role each student can play in building a positive school climate. De-Pompei’s lessons included both pre- and post-assessment activities and 100 percent of the post-tests demonstrated improved awareness and knowledge, equipping students with the tools to recognize and respond to bullying behavior effectively.

An inspiring highlight of the week’s activities was the “duct tape challenge,” where students from all grades were encouraged to pledge kindness and solidarity, symbolized by their commitment to “stick together.” Students took the pledge to stand against bullying, promoting a sense of unity and responsibility among their peers.

With plans to continue these impactful lessons and introduce additional activities, DePompei and Springfield Middle School are dedicating the school year to empowering students with skills that support mental wellness and foster a school environment where everyone feels valued and safe. This initiative stands as a powerful step in ensuring a welcoming and supportive space for every Springfield student.
