The Springfield Middle School wrestling team has shown remarkable growth and success over the past three years. Starting with 17 participants two years ago, the team expanded to 24 members last year and now boasts 29 athletes this season.
Competing in five tournaments so far, the team has secured impressive results. They were crowned champions at the Norwalk Invitational and the Marlo Mills Invitational at Bloom Carroll Schools. Additionally, they earned a fourth-place finish at the Fremont Titsworth Invitational and a third-place spot at the Triad Local School Invitational.
Individually, several wrestlers have stood out for their consistent performances. Seventh grader Logan Rajner holds an exceptional record of 23-2, earning first place in all but one tournament. Fellow seventh grader Jayden Mosley has achieved a 21-5 record, placing in the top five at every event. Eighth grader Lucas Albright has maintained a record of 16-4, consistently placing in the top three, while classmate Jayce Hunt boasts an 18-7 record with top-four finishes across all tournaments.
In its second year, the girls wrestling program is also making strides. Seventh grader Baileigh Youngblood placed fourth at the Heart of Ohio Invitational in Mechanicsburg, one of Ohio’s largest girls wrestling tournaments.
Springfield Middle School Principal Jeff Pendry, Coach Anthony Scott and Assistant Coach Sam Johnson commend the team for their dedication and skill, representing the school with pride and sportsmanship. With such incredible momentum, the SMS wrestling program is set to achieve even greater heights.
