Springfield Middle School student Sophia Ernst was recently recognized as 13ABC’s Rising Star of the Month. Reporter James Stark and his team visited Springfield to highlight Sophia’s commitment to helping others, both in and outside of school.
During the interview, Sophia shared her passion for making a difference among her classmates, her dedication to community service and her leadership in the Springfield Area Prevention Coalition’s Share the Shine initiative, which encourages students to focus on mental health and advocate for one another. She also spoke about how much she enjoys helping her classmates in math.
Sophia’s creativity also was on display as she proudly wore a shirt she designed herself.
Coalition President Andrea Smith joined the segment and expressed her pride in Sophia’s growth, attentiveness and the positive difference she continues to make.
