Springfield Schools names assistant superintendent of academic affairs

The Springfield Local Schools Board of Education has tapped Taryn Miley as its new assistant superintendent of academic affairs.

At the July 19 meeting, Superintendent Matt Geha requested board approval to promote Mrs. Miley to the position, effective August 1.

“Mrs. Miley has been a pillar within Springfield Local Schools for many years, contributing to our strong standing within the community and state,” he said.

“A Springfield High School graduate, she has used her many talents to strengthen the curriculum and assessment department for the past several years. Her great work and reputation go beyond the Holland/Springfield community and span beyond northwest Ohio’s borders,” Mr. Geha continued.

Currently the director of curriculum/instruction/testing, Mrs. Miley has more than 27 years of experience in education. She spent 17 years in the district as a first to fifth grade classroom instructor at Crissey Elementary School before transitioning into administration.

Because of her recognized expertise and drive to engage learners and develop life-long readers, Mrs. Miley was selected for several administrative posts before becoming the district’s director of teaching and learning in 2022.

She has a passion for improving literacy practices, advancing STEAM initiatives and developing teacher leaders, the superintendent said.

As assistant superintendent, her salary was adjusted to $111,038.

In addition to Mrs. Miley, the board approved a number of personnel matters.

They awarded pupil activity contracts to Bradley Konrad, SHS associate athletic director; Elenor Kosek, SMS cross country coach, and Andrew Sarra, SHS boys soccer volunteer coach.

The board accepted a resignation from Kristen Mehling, Dorr third grade teacher, effective August 1.

Stipends were approved for Raul “Sam” Arredondo and Tim McDaniel, summer school sessions one and two; Jamie Lenox, SHS summer school freshman transition instructor; Erica Tabler, ESY coordinator, and Christopher Young, algebra end of course testing.
