St. George Orthodox Cathedral will hold its annual summer festival Friday through Sunday, August 4 to 6, on the cathedral grounds, 3754 Woodley Road.
On Friday, the Middle Eastern festival gate will open at 5 p.m. It will continue on Saturday, at 4 p.m., and run on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, and children 10 and under are free.
This year’s festival will feature local band The Grape Smugglers on Friday night, and Madison Avenue on Saturday evening. On Sunday, After Shock featuring Nate Khoury and Dave Hairabedian will perform. Middle Eastern music, a belly dancer and dancing will also entertain the crowd throughout the weekend.
Food will be available for purchase, including sfeeha (meat pies), green beans and rice, baked kibbe (a meat and wheat mixture), grape leaf rolls and Middle Eastern pastries. Sandwiches, French fries, Zalabee (elephant ears), adult beverages and soft drinks also will be available.
A children’s area will include kiddie carnival games, crafts and inflatable bouncy houses. Sand art and face painting will also be offered.
Self-guided church tours will run throughout the festival hours. Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Shaheen will be available for questions that may arise. Church memorabilia and novelties will be available for sale.
