Sylvania Community Orchestra Young Artists Solo Competition

The Sylvania Community Orchestra is looking for its next young artist soloist. During the 2024-25 season, the orchestra launched its inaugural Young Artists Solo Competition. There was such a positive response to the competition that they were able to select not one, but two soloists to perform with the orchestra from the stage at Lourdes University.

The Sylvania Community Orchestra and Sylvania Arts announce their second annual Young Artists Solo Competition. Young instrumental and voice students are invited to audition for the opportunity to perform a solo of their choice with the Sylvania Community Orchestra and receive a $300 scholarship prize.

Applicants must live or attend school in northwest Ohio or southeast Michigan and be 21 years of age or younger on March 8, 2026. To apply, submit a round one application form and $30 application fee to Sylvania Arts at SylvaniaArts. org by September 21. By October 5, applicants who are selected for round two of the competition will receive an email invitation to submit a recorded audition of their proposed solo. Recorded auditions will be due on or before November 9. A jury of local musicians, chaired by Ronald Koch, music director and conductor of the SCO, will review the auditions and notify the finalist by December 14.

The finalist will join the Sylvania Community Orchestra to perform the solo of their choice as part of the SCO’s Sunday, March 8, 2026, concert at 4 p.m., at Lourdes University in Sylvania.
