Toledo Heart Walk set for May 18

Toledo Heart Walk will take place on Sunday, May 18, at Promenade Park, 400 Water Street. Events begin at 8 a.m. and the program at 8:45 a.m., followed by the walk at 9 a.m. The American Heart Association’s signature event drives CPR awareness and community preparedness Local businesses and American Heart Association volunteers, as well as heart disease and stroke survivors ,will participate. This year’s Toledo Heart Walk is sponsored by FirstEnergy, La-Z-Boy Foundation, Dana Incorporated, SSOE Group, ProMedica, Encompass Health, F&M Bank, S&G Stores, UToledo Health and WTOL.

The American Heart Association and approximately 1,000 community members will walk at the Toledo Heart Walk.

Nine out of 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. That is why the American Heart Association is broadening efforts to drive CPR education, awareness and community initiatives through the Heart Walk, the Association’s largest community- facing initiative. Through fund-raising, community education and corporate engagement, the walk aims to enhance CPR training accessibility, bolster bystander preparedness, increase funding for vital research and save and improve lives from cardiovascular diseases, the number one killer in Toledo.

Participants can register for the Heart Walk at heart.org/toledowalk. From there, they can create a fundraising page, download the Heart Walk mobile app, invite family and friends to participate and take part in the Heart Walk CPR Digital Experience to learn Hands-Only CPR in 90 seconds.

The walk will honor heart and stroke survivors. By participating and donating to Toledo Heart Walk, participants are supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association and safeguarding that fewer people die from stroke and heart disease. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research and more lifesaving moments for everyone.
