Village of Holland road projects delayed in bidding, state funding

Plans for several upcoming road improvement projects in Holland have experienced recent setbacks.

At the May 3 meeting of Holland Village Council engineer Tim Bock of Poggemeyer Design Group said a bid opening was held April 29 for the Hall Street project.

However, the apparent low bidder, Henry W. Bergman Inc. submitted a package with an expired ODOT pre-qualification certificate.

The bid requires a current ODOT certificate, he noted.

Since the bid opening, Mr. Bock was advised the certificate for Bergman has been renewed.

He suggested that council hold off on awarding the bid for more time to research this situation.

In another matter, the engineer told council that the village’s application for Ohio Public Works Commission funding of upcoming road projects did not receive favorable scoring and will be forwarded to the Small Governments program for possible funding.

Spectrum Drive is on the list of 2023 Lucas County road projects, which may push the Whisperwood subdivision phases two and three back two years.

Mr. Bock and Mayor Lee Irons plan to meet with TMACOG to learn about other funding opportunities.

Centennial Commission

A Centennial Commission has been created to organize the celebration of the village’s 100th anniversary in 2023.

The members include the mayor, all council members and village clerk-treasurer Lyn Krasula.

There is still room on the commission for members of the public. Anyone who would like to be considered should send an email to the mayor at mayor@hollandohio.com. Whisperwood Tree

Whisperwood Tree Public Hearing

Area residents are invited to share their concerns at the public hearing, which will take place at the Lodge at Strawberry Acres, 950 South McCord Road.

Council will then hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the lodge.
