Wicked Wheels on display at new location

The move to its new location at Community Homecoming Park in Springfield Township failed to deter car enthusiasts who turned out in full force for the Wicked Wheels car show. Held August 9, the wickedly fun event had an attendance that doubled in size from the previous year with more than 2,000 visitors. Car buffs had the chance to explore 386 cars from antiques to classics, along with hot rods and race cars.

Free and open to the public, the show featured music, food trucks, a performance by the Blue Devil band, a children’s area and an information highway.

Awards were presented in several “best of” categories. They are: Classic–Ron Bush, 1955 Thunderbird; Exotic–Michael Murray, 2019 Ford GT; Hot Rod–Bob Pugh, 1939 Ford; Rat Rod–Dan Holpren, 1965 Dodge pick-up; Tuner–Brandon Banks, 2018 Subaru WRX, and Best of Show–Millbury Classic Car Museum, Mike and Tammy Bartlett, 1982 DeLorean.

Winner of the 50/50 raffle was DJ Eric, who donated a portion of his winnings to the Springfield Township Fire Department, and the winner of the Jim White Honda Moto Compacto was Brian Bettinger.

The township expressed appreciation to the volunteers from Springfield High School for their assistance. Registration funds were retained by the academic and activity boosters, cross country team, band and JROTC.

This year’s awards were created by Cortney Filler from As Little Things Grow; and the Village of Holland 100th anniversary commemorative trophy was sponsored by McClure Insurance. It will be engraved with the best of show name and kept by the township.
