World Day of Remembrance for road traffic victims

Safe Communities of Wood County reports that during the last year, 22 people have lost their lives on county roadways. Any life lost is one too many and each one of these lives lost is more than a statistic, it’s a person who had a name, family members, friends and loved ones.

World Day of Remembrance (WDR) is a global event to remember the many millions who have been killed or seriously injured on roadways and to acknowledge all those who have been affected.

The lives lost impact families, their friends and the community, with millions added each year.

This day is a tool for traffic safety advocates and all those whose work involves crash prevention or response to the aftermath of traffic crashes. It offers the opportunity to demonstrate the enormous scale and impact roadway deaths and injuries have, reminding the public to make good choices behind the wheel.

On this day, observers can pay tribute to first responders and medical professionals who deal with the traumatic aftermath of crashes on a daily basis.

Roadway safety remains a shared responsibility. Working together, the public can reduce the number of fatal and injury crashes that occur not only on Wood County roadways, but across Ohio and the nation.
