Spring is trying to arrive, well on certain days at least. Those of us that love the change of seasons in northwest Ohio (that we can experience all in the same day—ha ha) particularly love spring with the rebirth of nature and all that seems to come to life in the spring. This spring is certainly unique, but I am excited to see the “rebirth” if you will of full-time school. Hopefully, this spring and the return to a routine can reinvigorate our students and community for that matter, as we try to finish off this difficult year and pandemic. Last week we had a milestone—our first day back with all students in the building.
This is the first true sign of “normal” in more than a year. There has been a lot shared, and I want to make one more effort to catch those who might have missed the following information:
Senior Cap and Gown Pick Up
On Monday, April 12, seniors in the building will pick up their items during their scheduled lunches. SDA and Penta students can pick up their items between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and must enter through the S door. If any senior is unable to pick up their items during that time frame, they can stop by student services and I’ll have them.
Title I and Federal Funds
The Springfield Local School District is seeking parental and citizen input regarding Title I and special education services provided via the use of federal funds. If you are interested in providing input, contact Paulette Baz, director of federal programs, at 419-867-5610 or paulettebaz@ springfield-schools.org. Child Find federal and state laws require school districts to evaluate children who have suspected disabilities. These laws affect all schoolaged children educated within the Springfield school district boundary and all preschool children who live within the Springfield school district. The Springfield Local School District is looking for children not currently being served by the district for delays or difficulties in: speech and language, motor skills, socio-emotional behavior, cognitive development, and adaptive/self-help skills. Any parent or guardian with concerns about their child’s ability or skills, and suspect there may be a disability, should contact their child’s teacher or principal.
For more information, contact Ms. Baz at 419-867-5610 or paulettebaz@springfield-schools.org. Additional information can be found at springfieldschools.org/federalprograms.
Dismissal
2:25 p.m. for freshmen, sophomores and bus riders. 2:30 pm. for juniors and seniors.
Drop Off/Pick Up
Please drop off and pick up students at the front of the high school.
Student Parking
All students who drive will return to parking in the student lot. We are asking our drivers to try and arrive between 7:25 and 7:35 a.m., to allow the middle school traffic to clear. Once in the building, the expectation is that students should go directly to class.
What to Bring
Students should bring their Chromebook charged and ready to go each day. They also are allowed to carry a backpack with them. Students should bring paper and a notebook along with writing utensils. We suggest a drawstring backpack for ease of moving in the classes. Refillable water bottles are preferred as drinking fountains remain closed, but bottle filling stations are available.
Traffic Patterns
As we return to school full time, traffic will pick up. We need everyone’s assistance in accessing the front of the SHS for drop off and pick up. Please access the building only eastbound on Hall Street with a right turn and southbound on McCord with a right turn at the center cut of SHS. There is no left turn from Hall Street into the lot during peak times of the day because of the danger of backing traffic into the roundabout. Also, do not drop off in the street.
