Blue Devils’ Update
We continue to get closer to the start of school and the excitement continues to build. Though things continue to be a work in progress with the pandemic possibilities, the excitement of the first day of school is still there. I know, probably more exciting for me than many of the kids, but to quote the Pointer Sisters, “I’m So Excited!”
Following are a few more updates. More specifics will be sent at the end of next week on what to bring and traffic. Please visit the district website for more information if you do not see it at springfield-schools.org/. I also wanted to let parents know that we are sending communications out to student emails as well on several things.
Freshman Orientation Day August 16 (Freshman and New Students Only)
Our first day of school for ninth grade and new students will be Monday, August 16. Freshmen and new students will have the opportunity to meet with mentors and share activities to introduce everyone to our high school. Group information was sent in the mail. If you did not receive a group letter, your group information will be provided the morning of the 16th. On that day, they will be given multiple tours to get to know their way around the high school and see the many programs we have to offer.
First Day of School for All Students (9-12)
Tuesday, August 17, will be the first day of school for all high school students.
Free and Reduced Lunch Forms
The State of Ohio is looking to continue a free lunch program for all students to start this year. However, the forms are still extremely important to fill out each year if there is a financial need to qualify for reduction in fees. Following is information from Jamie Filipiak, our director of food services.
“Fee Waiver Application and Free or Reduced-Price School Meal Application” is still used for the consideration of the waiving of fees/assessments for Springfield Local Schools, so those who may qualify should submit the application for the purpose of the waiver of fees for the 2021-22 school year. Also, if the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program were to be extended, families may receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits if the application has been completed.
Here is the link to the EZMealapp: secure.ezmeal app.com/ApplicationScreen.aspx
All parents/guardians will need their child(ren) student ID number to complete the online application.
Lockers
Students will be issued lockers upon request during the first week of school. Once school is in session, we will register students and lockers during lunches, if they choose to use a locker. High school students will begin the year allowed to carry backpacks to class to assist with social distancing in the hallways.
Springfield High School Open House
Springfield High School will offer a virtual open house the third week of school. Teachers are arranging videos regarding their class and expectations for each of their different classes. More information to come.
Class Schedules
We continue to work on schedules and adjust with changes in numbers. Any schedule currently viewable online is not correct. Class schedules were released to the student Powerschool accounts on August 9. We will continue to balance courses the best we can for social distancing. Schedule changes will not be able to be made unless the need is a graduation requirement. Schedules may continue to change through the start of school.
Online Forms
We continue to transition to online form. Please log into your Powerschool account and make sure all forms are updated.
Currently the forms do not work with cell phones. Please use a Chromebook or a desktop. Mrs. Welch will help get you started (419-867-5630), if you have any questions or need assistance.
