Last month, the Springfield Athletic Boosters hosted its annual golf outing at South Toledo Golf Club to raise funds to support Springfield High School athletes.
The event was a sell-out and featured 32 teams of four golfers. Booster members, alumni, parents, coaches, school board members, school staff and administration, teachers, friends and even some Blue Devil athletes participated.
The winning team of Greg Konczal, Tim Konczal, Joe Konczal and Sonya Warner received a free round of golf for four at South Toledo for their victory.
The second place team of Springfield boys golf coach Brad Kerns, Greg Kerns, Chris Brenna, and Nigle Esterhuizen received a free round of golf for four at Brandywine Country Club.
Taking third place was the team of Jim Allen, Pete Maybank, PJ Maybank and Kevin Dietz. They each were presented with a $25 Amazon gift card.
There also were small prizes given away to those with the longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.
A surprise guest handed out awards at the end of the event–former BGSU basketball star and current professional basketball player and a 2015 SHS alum Demajeo Wiggins.
After all expenses were paid, the Boosters raised just under $5,000, all of which goes back to support Springfield athletes.
The Boosters express appreciation to the planning committee: Andrew Screptock, Brad Kerns, Amanda Wilhelm and Sherri Koback.
They also thanked those who volunteered to help make everything run smoothly–Robb Brown, Jerry Bell, Chris and Amy Burns, Cheri Copeland-Shull and Dave Screptock.
Sponsoring the golf outing this year were Mike and Pat O’Shea, past and present golf coaches, Springfield Education Association, Evans, Beebe and Fields Financial Group, Hudson’s Automotive, Matt Geha and family, Tireman, Savory Tree and Lawn Services, Graduate Roofing, Subway, Steve Gwin, Scott Walsh of Savage and Associates, Steve Decker State Farm, Game One, A.A.
